 he September 4th, 2022 entry closing date is fast approaching for the 47th International PIF "Citta di Castelfidardo" Accordion Prize & Festival to be held in Castelfidardo, Italy from September 28th to October 2nd, 2022.Rules and further information in English and Italian at: 2022Castelfidardo Online entry at: 2022PIF-Entry The PIF 2022Castelfidardo Concert program is also announced. The City Council of Castelfidardo (Marche region, Italy), in collaboration with Castelfidardo Pro Loco Tourist Association, organizes the PIF International Competition “Città di Castelfidardo” for accordion soloists and groups, of classical music and other genres. | The Future of Young Folk Award has been running since 2002 and many past winners and competitors are now among the leading performers on the current folk scene. This could be your big chance! It is open to singers aged under 25 (on September 1st) and was set up to encourage to continuation of unaccompanied singing in the traditional style. Singers will be invited to sing either 1 or 2 songs depending on the time available and while it is not essential that the songs themselves are strictly traditional the style of singing should reflect a traditional approach. There are no defined rules of performance but the main elements the judges are looking for include: • To put the song before the performance • A feel for traditional song (especially from the British Isles) • The ability to put across the story and emotion behind the song and to engage the audience • To respect the lyrics as highly as the tune Clear diction is a key to good performance and the ability to introduce a song and explain its context is valuable. Above all – if possible enjoy singing! The competition is open to any singer up to the age of 25 and takes place on Sunday in Falcon Mews (a great acoustic venue), from 12 until 1.30pm. | If you are going to participate in the 47th PIF Competition in Castelfidardo, or a passionate accordion lover, or just happen to visit the accordion dedicated City of Castelfidardo, do NOT miss a visit. The newly renovated Accordion Museum Castelfidardo (Museo della Fisarmonica) re-opened on August 29th, 2020. The Accordion Museum Castelfidardo features some interesting new exhibits including the reproduction of a typical artisan workshop (1900-1970) with the wooden bench, detached parts of a vintage accordion and unique working tools that our craftsmen often invented and created themselves. (See top photo). Visitors will see other new exhibits including the two creators and founders of the Accordion Museum, Vincenzo Canali and Beniamino Bugiolacchi, composer Astor Piazzolla, Mariano Dallapè (founder of an accordion factory in 1876 in Stradella), Paolo Soprani, Gervasio Marcosignori, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy (see picture) and so much more. | Sunday 2 October 9,30 pm – Castelfidardo, Teatro Astra Accordionist Didier Laloy together with first clarinet Fabrizio Meloni, accompanied by the Calabrian Philharmonic Orchestra Didier Laloy discovered the accordion from the age of 13 and from there he became recognized as one of the most active representatives of the renaissance of the diatonic accordion in Europe. Over the years he has defined his style through the “freedom of creation”, which consists in following his personal needs and, above all, in bringing his audience to places still unknown. He has collaborated with many talented artists both on the Belgian and international scene, also carrying out personal projects. On the clarinet there will be Fabrizio Meloni, first solo clarinet of the Orchestra del Teatro and Filarmonica della Scala since 1984. Fabrizio has toured in the United States and Israel with the Italian Wind Quintet. With the Nuovo Quintetto Italiano he has actively toured in South America and South East Asia. His concert tour in Japan with P. Moll and I Solisti della Scala was met with enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics. He has numerous recordings to his credit. The Calabria Philharmonic Orchestra will accompany the two musicians throughout the performance. |

 Cohen’s solo repertoire is rooted in the English folk tradition, celebrating the age-old musical heritage of this broad and diverse land, with a particular interest in the music of the West Midlands, where Cohen spent many of his formative years. Traditional ballads, songs and tunes form the basis of Cohen’s material, but with a smattering of baroque, renaissance, ragtime, and music hall thrown in for good measure.Cohen has released two critically acclaimed solo albums, Outway Songster (2017) and Rakes & Misfits (2021), with the former leading to a nomination for the Horizon Award for best newcomer at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2018. His skill, dexterity, innovation and versatility have won him acclaim worldwide. He has received many accolades over the years, and his career has been documented in Sé Mo Laoch on TG4. Seamie O'Dowd is an excellent guitarist, singer, and songwriter. A defining member of Dervish for over a decade, he has also released three critically acclaimed solo albums. He has travelled worldwide, sharing stages with many musical greats, including Christy Moore, The Chieftains, Tommy Emmanuel, Matt Molloy, and Rick Epping. Cathal Hayden is an internationally renowned banjo and fiddle player who lives and breathes music. He has contributed to many albums as a session musician and is a founding member of the band "Four Men and a Dog".  8-11 September 2022 in BromyardJohn Kirkpatrick has been dancing, singing, and playing his way around the English folk scene. Displaying a rare skill on a variety of push-pull squeezeboxes – the melodeon, the button accordion, and the Anglo concertina – he has been fully professional since 1970, not only with vast amounts of solo appearances, but also in all kinds of duos, trios, and bands – including spells in Steeleye Span, The Albion Band, Trans Europe Diatonique, in a long term duo with Roy Bailey, Band of Hope, lengthy stints with Richard Thompson’s Band, The Sultans of Squeeze, and Brass Monkey. Out in the wide world John has contributed music, song, and dance to a great number of plays in the theatre, and to a lesser extent radio, television, and film. As a virtuoso session player his squeezeboxes can be heard on hundreds of recordings, and as a creator of new work in all these fields he has established an enviable reputation. But on his own live gigs you’re more likely to see him in his natural habitat pursuing his first love – traditional English music and song.
