 Lidia Kaminska will perform with the Atlantic Classical Orchestra in a series of concerts in Florida from March 3-6, 2020. Under the direction of Musical Director David Amado (picture right), Lidia will be featured on bandoneon performing Aconcagua Concerto by Astor Piazzolla. The concerts take place in Vero Beach (March 3rd, 7.30 PM), Jupiter (March 4th, 7.30 PM) and Stuart (March 6th, 4.00 PM and 8.00 PM).The concerts "Masterworks lll" are billed as featuring "the third of four tries Beethoven made at writing an overture to his only opera, Fidelio. The Leonore Overture No. 3 is the most symphonic of the pack, expansive, dramatic, and moving. We’ll follow with Astor Piazzolla’s Concerto Aconcagua, inspired by the eponymous peak and packed with Argentinian flare, drama, and beauty. It is a rare showpiece for bandoneon and orchestra that virtuoso Lidia Kaminska will bring to a full boil. After intermission is Schumann’s third symphony. Filled with his trademark lyricism, tenderness, heart-on-sleeve sentiment, and outsized passion, it is a masterpiece of German Romanticism.” Accordionist Lidia Kaminska, the winner of Astral Artistic Services’ 2007 National Auditions, has performed extensively in both the U.S. and Europe. Ms. Kaminska’s chamber music, concerto, and solo performances explore the complex and expressive range of the accordion as a classical instrument, and her repertoire includes a broad range of classical, contemporary, and avant-garde music. She conceived her first album, Breaking Boundaries, as part of her mission to change the perception of the accordion from parlor entertainment to a serious classical instrument; Philadelphia Magazine claims “she transforms the accordion into a massive force – more pipe organ than squeezebox – and burns through [classical repertoire] with virtuosic speed and technique.” Ms. Kaminska began playing the accordion at the age of eight. By eleven she was competing in International competitions in Bulgaria and Germany, and just a year later gave solo performances in Holland, Austria, and Germany, as well as in her native Poland. Upon receiving a Master’s degree from the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, she came to the U.S. to study at the University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC) studying with Joan C. Sommers, and at 25 she became the first (and only) person in the U.S. to receive a Doctorate in Accordion Performance. The recipient of a 2009 Career Advancement Award from the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia, Ms. Kaminska also received First Prize in the 2002 Accordion Teachers Guild, International (ATG) Competition in Orlando, Florida, the Special Prize in New York City’s International Tango Music Competition, with the Argentine tango ensemble Tango Lorca and Second Prize at the 2007 Coupe Mondiale International Competition for Ensemble Music. She has researched and performed the works of Astor Piazzolla extensively. Also possessing a special interest in new music, Ms. Kaminska has premièred works by Julia Alford Fowler and Paul Rudy and has appeared with the contemporary music ensembles New Ear and Musica Nova. She has also performed with both the Owen/Cox Dance Group and at the world première of BalletX; she went on to collaborate with Mathew Neenan of BalletX, and with dancer/choreographer Jorge Laico, for Pennsylvania Dance Theatre. Ms. Kaminska recently performed in a concert entitled “From My Latin Soul,” with legendary tenor Plácido Domingo in Washington, D.C.’s Constitution Hall. Symphony in C featured her in a sold-out performance as soloist in Piazzolla’s Aconcagua concerto for bandoneón, and she recently made a return appearance at the Symphony. She has also been a featured soloist with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, the Brooklyn Friends of Chamber Music, the Kielce Philharmonic Orchestra of Poland, the Strings of Lodz, the Concord Chamber Orchestra, the North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra. She has also been presented at Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Philadelphia Magazine featured her in its 2006 “Best of Philly” issue, and her interview with Marty Moss-Coane was recently broadcast on WHYY and NPR. Lidia made her bandoneon debut in the Spring of 2007 and has been active performing on it ever since. This year’s event will be held from April 1st to 4th and will be open daily for Trade and Private visitors. This new Musikmesse Plaza is an innovative event concept focusing on musicians and music lovers. In different areas there will be vintage exhibitions, record fair, music instrument market, an instrument auction and lots more. You do not need to be a member of WCCP to come (though you might consider joining them – it’s only £10 annually); the weekend is open to all. Workshop strands are as follows, you will need to let us know which group you’d like to join when booking: Concertina Band with Claire Wren English System with Sandra Kerr Anglo System with Brian Peters Duet System with Tim Laycock An essential part of the team, ‘The Concertina Tinker‘ Dave Elliott will be in attendance throughout the weekend offering ‘Concertina A&E’ and practical advice and expertise regarding maintenance. There will be time to relax in the comfort of Halsway Manor, with evening playing sessions in the bar, plus an informal tutor’s concert on the Saturday evening. There’s also the option to stay an extra night and book for Sunday supper, B&B, the perfect time to relax and unwind after a busy weekend of music and socialising. | 7 Marzo ore 16-20 8 Marzo ore 10-14 Scuola MEDInTERRA via Pozzino 6, Lequile (LE) L’organetto è uno strumento che evoca e porta con sé un patrimonio tradizionale straordinario. Negli ultimi anni tale patrimonio è stato riscoperto nei dettagli e riportato alla luce. La diffusione dell’organetto in questa fase di riscoperta ha fatto sì che il repertorio tradizionale incontrasse nuovi ambiti, si ampliasse fino a toccare nuovi orizzonti espressivi. Ed è così che per raggiungere tali orizzonti, le tecniche tradizionali sono state perfezionate e arricchite, rendendo l’organetto uno strumento versatile e completo. Sotto queste ipotesi, questo stage introduce le tecniche di base dello strumento e la loro applicazione a diversi generi, partendo dai limiti strutturali e cercando di superarli, anzi, di farne un’opportunità esecutiva ed espressiva. Si studieranno alcuni brani composti in forma di studio, che facilitano l’apprendimento delle tecniche di base e che ampliano le conoscenze di coloro che già hanno familiarità con lo strumento. E’ consigliato un modello in tonalità sol/do con un minimo di 8 bassi. La Scuola MEDInTERRA si occupa di ricerca, studio e divulgazione delle musiche di Tradizione Orale, siano esse di matrice colta (fanno riferimento ad un sistema musicale, es. musica classica indiana) o popolare (più immediate, rituali o di festa ma con un linguaggio specifico a seconda della provenienza). L’obiettivo è quello di codificare e rendere fruibile in maniera più immediata e con un percorso accademico, le musiche popolari, in continua evoluzione, integrando il sistema musicale eurocolto (basato prevalentemente sulla scrittura) e quello indiano (prevalentemente) basato sulla trasmissione orale del sapere. Claudio Prima è un organettista esperto di musiche ‘di confine’ e ha ideato e condotto in questi anni una serie di progetti incentrati sul dialogo fra musiche di provenienza diversa (Adria, BandAdriatica, Progetto Se.Me., Giovane Orchestra del Salento, La Répétition) con cui si esibisce in Europa, Africa, SudAmerica, USA. E’ assistente di Goran Bregovic e Giovanni Sollima per le edizioni 2012-2014 della Notte della Taranta.  August 10 – August 16, 2020The Stowe Tango Music Festival's Bandoneon Intensive Workshop is open for all levels of bandoneon students. Led by world–renowned bandoneon player Hector Del Curto, the one–week program consists of daily technique classes, workshops, bandoneon orchestra, private lesson and performance opportunities. Technique classes focus on instrument management, fingering, and other techniques that will narrow the gap between musical intention and execution. The workshops will help students acquire knowledge and experience in stylistic and interpretative skills. In addition, students will have the opportunity to apply their skills through master classes and performance. Attendance to the Bandoneon Intensive Workshop is required for bandoneon players who are invited to the Tango Academy as the workshop will provide the necessary preparation for rehearsing and performing in the Stow Tango Music Festival Orchestra (orquesta tipica). Die Steirische Harmonika gehört als Wahlinstrument zum Fächer kanon der Ausbildung am Hohner-Konservatorium. In diesem Tagesworkshop wollen wir die Möglichkeiten dieser Instrumentalausbildung vorstellen. Darüber hinaus wollen wir den Neueinsteigern auf der Steirischen einen Einblick in die Instrumentalpraxis geben und erste Spielanleitungen und Einsatzfelder vorstellen, denn sie ist zur Zeit eines der beliebtesten Harmonika-Instrumente. Der rasche Anfangserfolg motiviert und bereitet Lust auf mehr. Geht man allerdings etwas tiefer in die Materie, verlässt den sicheren Hafen der für die Harmonika eingerichteten „Stücke“, braucht man systematische Basics am Instrument. Gerade das freie „Dazuspielen“ und das Musizieren im Harmonikaduo ist eines der erfüllendsten Kapitel auf diesem Instrument. In einem ersten Schritt werden wir in diesem Workshop grundsätzliche harmonische und melodische Begleitmuster besprechen und ausprobieren. Bei Lust und Laune gehen wir in einem zweiten Schritt noch etwas weiter und verwenden unsere instinktiv bestens abgespeicherte Dur-Tonleiter-Skala, um auf der Basis von Latin-Rhythmen dem musikalischen Gefühl der improvisatorischen Freiheit etwas näher zu kommen. Although based in the West Country there are members throughout the UK and indeed world-wide. The membership includes players of all levels of ability from absolute beginner to expert. All systems of concertinas are represented and all genres of music. Covered is the Introduction to the instrument, playing techniques, reading music,playing by ear, playing in bands nd playing in sessions. Whenever WCCP meet, it is played a wide variety of music including Classical, British & International Folk, Ragtime, Blues and much more besides. Performed as individuals, in pairs and small groups as well as in full-scale concertina bands that include Treble, Baritones and Bass instruments. Whilst the ability to read music is an advantage, but there are many excellent players who happily play "by ear". Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the concertina. | Mo' Mojo takes Zydeco and Cajun music and infuses it with Americana, reggae, rock & roll, R & B and African and Latin rhythms. Mo' Mojo covers a lot of ground in the genre. Playing their own originals plus staple hits from zydeco kings such as Clifton Chenier, Boozoo Chavis, and Buckwheat Zydeco. They get the Zydeco funk groove going with the sounds of Sean Ardoin, and Keith Frank. Mo' Mojo sings in French on rowdy Cajun numbers! They have created zydeco versions of pop/rock songs by the likes of Led Zepplin CCR, and Prince.  Venerdì 6 marzo, al Teatro Apollo di Lecce, il ballerino e coreografo Roberto Herrera proporrà un’immersione nella cultura argentina con il suo spettacolo “Tango di Buenos Aires”, un viaggio nella storia del tango argentino in coppia con Laura Legazcue e accompagnato da Simone Marini al bandoneón e Kaori Sacco al pianoforte. Lo spettacolo è incluso nel cartellone della 50^ Stagione Concertistica della Camerata Musicale Salentina.Roberto Herrera è oggi considerato un vero e proprio maestro, punto di riferimento sia per il tango tradizionale. Tango di Buenos Aires è uno sguardo profondo su Buenos Aires e sull’Argentina, uno spettacolo in cui l’irresistibile eleganza, sensualità e seduzione del tango, si fonde armonicamente con la forza del folclore argentino. La colonna sonora di questo viaggio parte dai classici legati alle radici di questo ballo che all’epoca si chiamava semplicemente musica ciudadana. David and Joseph come from Mayo and Shane from Sligo which inspired the trio to show reverence for the old recordings of these regions, but also blend some new compositions into the mix.
