 The 2021 Sidmouth Folk Festival will be held from July 30th to August 6th as an open air event in the Blackmore Gardens in Sidmouth, Devon, England.The event will feature all day entertainment, street theatre, stalls, food court and evening concerts. Entertainers include Granny’s Attic (Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne (melodeon), Scottish trio Talisk (which includes concertina player Mohsen Amini - picture below) and Saul Rose (melodeon - picture left). John Kirkpatrick will conduct a Concert Band Workshop online from Monday to Friday between 9.30 and 11.00 am. Music will be available via the festival website. | July 1-3, 2021 Haapavesi Folk Music Festival is a 3-day music event that was founded in 1989. The programme of the festival consists of high quality Finnish and international folk music and world music, alongside with some classical, jazz, pop and cross-genre acts. Programme includes also seminars and the festival week starts with acclaimed Folk Courses which are taught by several top folk musicians. Majority of the performers at the festival come from the Finnish folk music scene but international acts are also an essential part of the programme. The festival offers music from different cultures all over the world, especially Scandinavian, Celtic and North American music has been vastly represented. The festival is organised by a small number of personnel, and what truly makes the organisation possible are the hundreds of volunteers who join the team every summer during the festival season. Teachers at the Folk Course come from several different countries. The course offers an opportunity to learn about different music cultures while also providing first-class instruction on various instruments.  Tutto inizia e tutto finisce.Marco e Tiziana scivono: Dopo 19 edizioni il Civitella Alfedena Folk Festival chiude il sipario. La 20a edizione, rinviata lo scorso anno a causa restrizioni pandemia, anche quest'anno non ci sarà. La motivazione ufficiale è la mancanza di risorse economiche necessarie a programmare anche un'edizione ridotta. Qui per noi si chiude un capitolo che ricorderemo sempre con grande affetto. Marco e Tiziana scrivono: Una bellissima e indimenticabile esperienza che ci ha permesso di raggiungere tutti gli obiettivi inizialmente preposti: Creare un evento fisso riconosciuto a livello nazionale, proporre spettacoli, laboratori e attività diversificate e di qualità, promuovere Civitella Alfedena in ambito nazionale, muovere un'economia legata al festival, utilizzare al massimo le risorse a disposizione, ospitare ed accogliere artisti e pubblico come in una grande famiglia (motivo per cui esternamente viene coniato il termine "Il Festival degli affetti"). Ma la più grande e impagabile soddisfazione nostra è stata conoscere tantissime "belle persone" tra artisti, partecipanti e civitellesi. Persone con cui abbiamo stretto un legame affettivo che ci appaga e ripaga del grande lavoro svolto nonostante le poche forze a disposizione. Questo legame continua e siamo certi continuerà anche in futuro. Ed è grazie anche a loro che, in quella settimana, si respirava quella piacevole e positiva atmosfera di serenità e allegria. Doveroso il nostro ringraziamento ai sindaci Giancarlo Massimi e Flora Viola per la serietà, oggi così rara, disponibilità e fiducia dimostrata, per aver creduto da sempre nel progetto ed averci stimolato a proseguire anche nei momenti di difficoltà. | Harmonica day in Harkema at Spitkeet on Saturday, July 3 continues as always. This is for balg instruments only and so here and there a harmonica and or a guitar. But no drums and similar instruments. Also electronically reinforced instruments are not welcome because of the sound produced. This day is free for the players and the public pays the entrance fee of the museum. Because of the enlarged terrace there is even more opportunity to play outdoors and enjoy the nice weather then it will probably be another great day. Everyone is invited who loves this music and wants to come to play and listen |

 Video: Marco Klemmer entertaining at the summit of The Hochlantsch in Austria.Accordionist Marco Klemmer enjoys climbing mountains as well as playing his accordion, so of course he combines the two. He recently climbed The Hochlantsch, which is the highest mountain in the Graz Highlands. The Hochlantsch is a popular destination for those living in the Graz area due to its good views and easy access. When he reached the summit, people were surprised to hear him playing his accordion. In addition, he met two other players at the summit, who also performed while there. |

| The Danças Ocultas quartet will tour Europe in July giving concerts in Austria, Switzerland, Germany and France. The quartet includes accordionists Artur Fernandes, Filipe Cal, Filipe Ricardo and Francisco Miguel, who are pleased to be back on stage after Covid-19 restrictions prevented them from live performances. Die Villacher Altstadt verwandelt sich währenddessen in eine riesige Festmeile. | The John O’Groat Journal & Caithness Courier newspaper recently featured an item on Caithness entertainer Brandon McPhee, who is doing his bit to encourage more young people to take up the button accordion. Brandon recorded two videos during Covid-19 lockdown, one on an IPad and one on an IPhone, receiving over 50,000 views so far. The recording was completed at a local independent record label based near Wick at Tannach, Pan Records. |

Original songs, sometimes inspired by traditional music, create an intense and exciting repertoire, which looks to the origins of Adriatic music, pushing into the territories of modernity and stylistic hybridization between classical, folk and cultured contemporary music. ------------------------------------------------------------- Venerdì 25 giugno è uscito "Enjoy" che propone dieci composizioni originali di Claudio Primo ed è il disco d’esordio del progetto Claudio Prima & Seme. L'incontro fra l'organetto del musicista, cantante e compositore salentino Claudio Prima, il quartetto d'archi formato da Vera Longo (violino e voce), Paola Barone (violino), Cristian Musìo (viola) e Marco Schiavone (violoncello), già protagonisti di numerose collaborazioni (Giovane Orchestra del Salento, La Municipal, Orchestra della Magna Grecia), e le percussioni di Vito De Lorenzi, porta alla ricerca di una scrittura che esprima il contatto tra due stili, apparentemente lontani fra loro, ma legati da un'appartenenza geografica che negli anni ha prodotto numerose forme di reciproca influenza. Il rigore della musica classica incontra, infatti, l'istinto e la spontaneità della musica popolare, che rivive di una ritualità moderna, traslando la sua eterna ricerca di un richiamo ancestrale in una scrittura attuale. Il Mediterraneo si fonde con il mondo classico, giocando con le provenienze e favorendo la contaminazione di due mondi musicali che da sempre hanno segretamente dialogato, come si può evincere dalle composizioni di Béla Bartók e Igor Stravinskj, fra gli altri, profondamente intrise di echi tradizionali. Il repertorio scandaglia i fondali del Mediterraneo con una scrittura originale che condensa più di vent’anni di ricerca sulle musiche cosiddette “di confine” e sulle inaspettate connessioni fra le tradizioni del mare di mezzo e il mondo classico. Prossimo appuntamente è al Philia Festival di Squinzano, in provincia di Lecce (17 luglio - ore 20:30) e a Suoni della Murgia di Altamura, in provincia di Bari (30 luglio - ore 20:30). «Scrivere per quartetto d'archi non è impresa semplice, è uno strumento complesso con delle logiche interne quasi perfette, che si portano dietro secoli di storia della musica», spiega Claudio Prima. «Dopo quattro anni di prove e tentativi a volte non riusciti, ho iniziato a scrivere per quartetto cercando di sfruttarne al meglio la potenza evocativa, che viene dall'ascolto degli archi in ambito popolare, soprattutto nell'est Europa, in Albania, Romania, Armenia. In questo progetto io cerco principalmente l'emozione del gesto sonoro, la coesione e l'immediatezza. Ogni brano è un piccolo rito per me, ha i suoi richiami nella mia storia personale e nel mio percorso professionale, rappresenta per me il riferimento a un vissuto, a una relazione, a un'esperienza, che traduco volta per volta in musica. Ogni brano è completamente vissuto e concreto, questo mi aiuta a connettermi in prima persona con quello che scrivo e poi suono. Così posso trasportare con me dapprima i musicisti che condividono questo percorso, giovani talenti che hanno da subito sposato l'idea e che mi sostengono in tutto il processo e quindi il pubblico, a cui nei live racconto cosa c'è dietro ogni brano, per poterli aiutare a rivivere con me quell'emozione. A dirla tutta questo accade, a volte, anche senza dire una parola». Claudio Prima è leader e ideatore di numerosi progetti di indagine sulle “musiche di confine” (BandAdriatica, Adria, La Repetitiòn - Orchestra senza confini, Tukrè, Manigold). Si esibisce in festival e rassegne internazionali in Europa, USA, Brasile Tunisia, Libano, Giordania, Kuwait. È organettista, cantante, compositore e autore di colonne sonore. È solista dell’opera contemporanea Oceanic Verses di Paola Prestini con cui si esibisce a New York, Washington e al Barbican Center di Londra con la BBC Symphony Orchestra. Dirige la “Giovane Orchestra del Salento” un ensemble di giovani musicisti salentini. È assistente di Goran Bregovic e Giovanni Sollima per la Notte della Taranta. Ha un'intensa attività discografica e ad oggi conta più di 80 presenze in pubblicazioni discografiche italiane ed internazionali. Scrive musiche per teatro (Verso Terra di Mario Perrotta 2016, Oltremundo, Arrivi e partenze di Marcelo Bulgarelli 2014, La grande cena di Camilla Cuparo 2009). «L’organetto per me è uno strumento di relazione, di incontro, è una lente d’ingrandimento, portata sempre in valigia e pronta ad esplorare.
