| The 41st annual Tejano Music Awards will be a virtual event for the second straight year and “The Biggest Night in Tejano Music” and be broadcast on San Antonio television station WOAI-TV (NBC News 4) on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 8 p.m., organizers announced on Thursday (Oct. 14) The virtual event will also be broadcast on other Sinclair Broadcast Group Texas television stations in the cities of El Paso, San Angelo, Corpus Christi, Abilene, and Harlingen.  A Celebration of Texas Heritage and CultureThe Texas Folklife Festival embodies the history and heritage of the state by allowing visitors to learn the story of Texas in the best way possible—by experiencing it for themselves. While the COVID-19 pandemic has put a hold on our beloved festival, both UTSA and the Institute of Texan Cultures are committed to seeing this vital event continue and are planning to resume the Texas Folklife Festival in 2022. Important guidance will come from the ITC Centennial 2068: Community Visioning process via the Community Engagement & Sustaining Support Task Force. The group’s work will provide important counsel on leveraging current and new partnerships to advance the annual cultural tradition and broaden its impact for so many in San Antonio and across the state. The celebration is an opportunity to learn by doing, whether participating in dance, tasting a new meal or crafting an item by hand. | Guardia Nueva is celebrating their 20th Diamond Jubilee anniversary with a series of concerts in 2021 and 2022. On December 11th at 7pm, this very successful orchestra directed by Raimo Vertainen, will perform a special Christmas Concert of a re-composed version of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” at the Kokkola Church in Kokkola, Finland. This new work “Recomposed Four Seasons” by German composer Max Richter includes dance and animations, has been orchestrated by Raimo Vertainen and arranged for Guardia Nueva. An essential part of the work is dance, which depicts the change of seasons, and at the same time the cycle of human life. Spring-summer-autumn-winter: from the symbols of nature from birth to death. | "Incanto di Natale" La tradizione dei canti natalizi nel Centro Sud Italia è ricca e suggestiva. La religiosità genuina del popolo e le composizioni di musica sacra si incrociano nelle ninne nanne dedicate alla Natività, nei canti di Natale, nelle nenie e nei canti per la Vergine, che insieme costituiscono un repertorio ampio e vario. Per tutte le terre del Sud a Natale, intere compagnie di musici con tamburelli, organetti, sonagliere e cupa cupa, viaggiavano di casa in casa, di masseria in masseria, a portare a tutti la buona nuova della nascita di Cristo fino all'Epifania. I canti natalizi sono le strine, antichissimi canti pagani propiziatori che sono sopravissuti nella memoria popolare, e che raccontano la nascita di Cristo con melodie popolari che si perdono nel tempo. L’organetto e la voce di Claudio Prima (leader di BandAdriatica e Progetto Seme), la voce Alessia Tondo (voce del Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino) affiancati da Gianni Gelao (zampogna, ciaramella, flauti) e Vito De Lorenzi (percussioni) si confrontano oggi con il repertorio dei canti tradizionali di Natale ricreando le atmosfere delle compagnie di questua in un concerto dal forte carattere evocativo. Con l’ausilio dei soli strumenti tradizionali (zampogna, ciaramella, organetto, tamburelli, violino dei poveri, flauti) utilizzati un tempo, i canti e le musiche di natale ricreano gli spazi della festa del popolo, i suoni che hanno accompagnato la sacralità e la scansione del tempo di ogni celebrazione tradizionale. | “Flogging Molly” will hold their next Salty Dog Cruise from March 28th to April 1st, 2022. The 4 day floating festival will take place on the cruise ship “Norwegian Pearl”, which will sail from Miami to Nassau and Grand Bahama Island. The festival will include a variety of concerts, on-board activities, a skate ramp with pro skaters and tattoo artists. “Flogging Molly” is a seven piece Celtic punk band, which includes Matt Hensley (accordion, concertina, vocals) along with players of a variety of instruments such as guitar, bodhran, violin, tin whistle, bass guitar, mandolin, banjo, drums, percussion and vocalists. Ils exploreront ses influences et son héritage, mettant ainsi en relief cette figure incontournable de l’histoire du tango. Astor Piazzolla, né en 1921 à Buenos Aires et mort en 1992 est un compositeur et bandonéoniste argentin, considéré comme l’un des plus important pour la musique Tango de la seconde moitié du XXè siècle. Il vivra un temps à Paris où il suivra l’enseignement de Nadia Boulanger. C’est lors de cette période qu’il affirma un style qui se base sur les musiques populaires pour les enrichir d’un langage plus contemporain et subtile. Par la suite, il retrouvera Buenos Aires ou il formera le Quinteto de Tango Nuevo, c’est là qu’il s’affirmera par son écriture et son style. |

What makes a truly great teacher, one that inspires students so fully that it changes the course of their lives? Tonight we explore this compelling question as we celebrate a hundred years of Argentinian tango master Astor Piazzolla, the eightieth birthday of renowned composer Adolphus Hailstork, and the arresting genius (and fiftieth birthday) of bandoneonist and composer Hector Del Curto.” Program Notes by Hector Del Curto: “Trace of Time” is a single movement piece which cycles through some of the most culturally relevant rhythms from the Rio de La Plata: the tango, the milonga and the waltz. It also follows traces le by the composers and musicians I greatly admire, such as Osvaldo Pugliese, Astor Piazzolla, and the former pianist of the latter, Pablo Ziegler with whom I have been sharing the road of music for the past 30 years. “Trace of Time” was commissioned by Apollo Chamber Players in 2021 during the pandemic which for many people including myself, seemed to have stopped time on March 12, 2020. This piece perhaps will serve me as a trace to find myself in the future when recollecting this challenging time for human history. |

  Joe Hall & The Cane Cutters play Cajun, Zydeco, and Creole music from Southwest Louisiana. Joe Hall & The Cane Cutters perform Grand Prairie Blues on the main stage at the Wheatland Music Festival in Remus Michigan on Sept 7, 2018.”The Hall family was blessed with a hard-working father figure who provided in every way for his family of six out there on the southwest Louisiana prairies. Even though Joe never had to work in the fields like most of the Creole share croppers since the days of the Civil War, his is an old soul. During his formative years, young Joe did not pick sweet potatoes or break corn but instead he lent an attentive ear to the many kernels of ancient wisdom from his elders. They recognized him as the “anointed one ” and willingly, Joe Hall accepted the torch of the Creole cultural flame.” Joe Hall & The Cane Cutters play Cajun, Zydeco, and Creole music from Southwest Louisiana. As a third generation Creole artist who learned at the knee of his grandfather, “King” Ned. Joe Hall is very devoted to preserving his heritage . At the age of 7 years, Hall made regular visits to elder statesmen of Creole music, such as “Bois Sec” Ardoin, Canray Fontenot, Calvin Carriere and Carlton Frank to learn tunes first hand and develop his own style. Through his grandfather, Joe Hall inherited a love for the accordion, playing his grandpa’s accordion whenever he was away. By the time Ned discovered that Hall had been tinkering with his instrument, the grandson had become surprisingly proficient. From there, Hall paid regular visits to the elder statesmen of Creole music, such as “Bois Sec” Ardoin, Canray Fontenot, Carlton Frank and Calvin Carrière, to learn and play tunes. Surprised to see such a young person with a rabid interest, Carlton Frank invited his brother Paul to meet Hall.
