 Zydeco accordionist , Koray Broussard, has released a new single called “OH I.” It has a classic R&B love song smoothness to it, and is enhanced by Koray's accordion playing. Listen to his new song.Broussard's band includes Broderick Freeman on keyboard, Darryl Dardin on drums, Shone Richard on rubboard, Lance Ellis on bass and Broussard on accordion. Zydeco music is an integral part of Koray Broussard and his family. As a native of Opelousas, LA, Koray is a third generation Zydeco musician. His father John, uncle Jeffrey and grandfather Delton are all accomplished and well known accordion players in Southern Louisiana and throughout the USA. When asked how old he was when he began to play the accordion and who his teacher was, Koray replied, "I'm 26 and no one really taught me how to play.  Bandoneon player and composer Juan José Mosalini leads a workshop on Tuesday December 1st, from 10am, at the Folkwang Akkordeonklasse, Kammermusiksaal, Campus Essen-Werden, Essen, Germany. Juan José Mosalini (born 1943), from Argentina, specializes in tango nuevo and since 1977 has lived in France, where he has performed and taught. In 1999 he founded the first bandoneon course in Europe at the Conservatory in Gennevilliers. As a composer, he has also written film scores including ‘Double Face’ and ‘Le 4ème Pouvoir’ and ‘Das Autogramm’. |

| Parte de un cambio en los planes de estudio y en la perspectiva formativa, la Escuela de Música incorporará el año próximo formalmente en su plan de estudios dos espacios dedicados a instrumentos poco tradicionales: charango y acordeón. Fruto de un trabajo que ya se venía realizando desde mediados de 2013, el año próximo se dictarán en la Escuela de Música, Danza y Teatro 20 talleres dedicados al aprendizaje de otros tantos instrumentos. La novedad -que ubica a la institución dependiente de la FHAyCS de la Uader a la vanguardia enseñanza en el país, es la incorporación para el año próximo de manera formal en lo que se denomina Trayecto de Formación Vocacional ex nivel medio, de dos instrumentos que no estaban incorporados: charango y acordeón. “Esto no es fruto de la improvisación sino que se trata del resultado de un proceso de trabajo que comenzó años atrás”, recordó Daniel Richard El secretario de Escuelas de la Facultad de Humanidades, Artes y Ciencias Sociales de la Uader, señaló que la innovación curricular “es parte de un cambio cultural que estamos emprendiendo y que en 2016 se vea en una propuesta renovada en el ex nivel medio, en talleres infantiles de música (de 6 a 8 años) y trayectos vocacionales (de 9 años en adelante)”. Richard especificó que Marcia Müller será la responsable de taller de acordeón, mientras que el de charango estará a cargo de Nicolás Fáez Micheloud. “Apostamos en este programa a responder una demanda que proviene de la propia sociedad y que enmarcamos en una política global con una determinada concepción de pensar el arte y sus manifestaciones vinculadas al sentir popular, como expresión de la identidad de un pueblo”, agregó el docente. Por ello es que se tomó la decisión de dar un golpe de timón hacia el interior de la organización curricular de la escuela, “en una tradición que estuvo fuertemente ligada a lo académico y sólo tenía vínculos pero limitados –a partir del trabajo de una o dos cátedras, como la de guitarra- con las corrientes musicales ligadas al acervo folklórico y de la región”. NUEVOS AIRES. S bien la conexión entre el ámbito académico y el popular siempre existió, en los últimos años ese vínculo se potenció. En esa perspectiva es que “desde 2010 se trabaja en reformular talleres en la Escuela”. Luego del proceso de debate “con escucha abierta”, se decidió institucionalmente “dar lugar a un período de apertura para experiencias innovadoras. Y en diálogo con los distintos actores que integran la comunidad educativa de la institución, se conformara la propuesta educativa para una nueva etapa”. Los tiempos se aceleraron a partir de mediados del corriente año con la reinauguración del edificio de la escuela. “Pensamos que era también el momento oportuno para la reinauguración propuesta académica”, apuntó Richard. Fue así que se presentaron los nuevos Trayectos de formación vocacional (ex nivel medio) en los cuales una de las intenciones primordiales fue “trabajar sobre el desgranamiento” de la matrícula y trabajar para evitar la deserción en un período clave: la adolescencia. Fue así que se avanzó en cambiar formalmente el carácter de la propuesta curricular del plan de estudios. “Es una renovación de la propuesta académica significativa, ya que se pasó de un cursado de nueve años a otros de seis”, apuntó el Secretario de Escuelas. El trabajo, destacó, se realizó en conjunto con la escuela Celia Torrá, de Concepción del Uruguay, que implementará las modificaciones en el ciclo lectivo 2016. En ese proceso es que se decidió incluir instrumentos que no formaban parte de la propuesta: el charango (en 2012) y el acordeón (en 2015). “Esto acompaña otras reformas en el área de danza, y el taller infantil”, remarcó Richard. AVANCES. “El acordeón es un instrumento que aparece cada vez más vinculando a distintas generaciones”, cuenta Marcia Muller, docente de ese instrumento en el taller que actualmente cuenta con 20 alumnos, de los cuales más de la mitad ya cuenta con su propio instrumento. Para la tallerista, que se formó dentro del establecimiento, del cual egresó primero en el nivel medio y luego del profesorado, esta posibilidad de incorporar el acordeón a la propuesta formal de la institución “es una felicidad enorme”. “Creo que es un avance muy grande para el instrumento”, destaca la docente. Y apunta: “Sólo conozco algo similar en la Escuela Popular de Música de Avellaneda, donde funciona desde hace años; y otra similar, en formación, en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires”. Un caso similar es el del charanguista Nicolás Fáez Micheloud, quien debió formarse de modo sui generis, buscando maestros fuera de los ámbitos académicos. Hoy es un intérprete reconocido por referentes de la talla de Jaime Torres y Ricardo Vilca. “Me ha sorprendido mucho en este período, el poder encontrarme con gente joven y adulta con mucho entusiasmo por aprender el instrumento. Para algunos es la posibilidad de dar cauce a una necesidad muy sentida que no tenía respuesta a sus inquietudes”, dice el músico. Para otros, el taller es la posibilidad de retomar el vínculo con el aprendizaje luego de muchos años de paréntesis. En ese sentido, Fáez Micheloud expresa su alegría por ver gente “haciendo su música y disfrutándolo”. EXPECTATIVAS. “La expectativa es grande”, reconoció Daniel Richard , para quien además el éxito que ha tenido la convocatoria formulada desde los talleres es el “resultado de un trabajo interno sostenido y consistente que se ha llevado a cabo con el objetivo de potenciar el acercamiento de la Escuela a la sociedad”. “Queremos una escuela integrada a la ciudad, y para ello lo primero que nos planteamos es recuperar el potencial de los docentes que integran la planta”, subrayó. Para ello, finalizó, se trata de “reconocer nuestras capacidades y pensar en una escuela que recupera espíritu al servicio de su comunidad” lo cual a la vez “implica un trabajo muy importante: cambiar estructuras”.  Diatonisches Akkordeon in der italienischen Folkmusikab mittlerem Spielniveau Stefano "Ciuma" Delvecchio Viele Akkordeonisten in Deutschland spielen auf italienischen Instrumenten; die vielfältige Folkmusik Italiens ist dagegen noch relativ wenig verbreitet. Dabei gibt es für das diatonische Akkordeon ein abwechslungsreiches Repertoire mit ganz unterschiedlichen technischen Spielweisen zu entdecken. Italien ist ein Schmelztiegel vielfältiger Kulturen, aus denen sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte die italienische Bevölkerung gebildet hat, mit ihren unterschiedlichen Liedern und Tänzen. Im Nord-Westen ist eine Tanzmusik beliebt, die mit der französischen Tradition verwandt ist. Im Nord-Osten entdeckt man den Einfluss österreichischer Musik. Im Süden, wo lange Zeit ein intensiver Kontakt mit der arabischen Kultur stattgefunden hat, finden wir obsessive Tänze wie die "Tarantella" und die "Tammurriata". Aus dem Herzen Italiens, aus der Emilia Romagna mit ihrer Hauptstadt Bologna, stammt unser Referent, einer der führenden diatonischen Akkordeonisten Italiens. Die Emilia Romagna kann man als Brücke zwischen Nord und Süd und als Treffpunkt der Kulturen mit einer bemerkenswerten kulturellen Breite verstehen. Dieses reichhaltige Repertoire bildet den Schwerpunkt des Workshops. So spielen (und tanzen!) wir u.a. die "Giga", ganz klar aus Nordeuropa kommend, genau so wie den "Saltarello", der uns an die süditalienischen Tänze erinnert. Als Ausblick werden wir auch Beispiele des italienische Repertoires aus anderen Regionen mit seinen verschiedenen Spielweisen kennenlernen, sowie manche Spieltechniken, die einzigartig in der Welt sind, wie z.B. die Blasebalg-Technik in der Tanzmusik Sardiniens. | Feature Article: Walter Mouton: 'I was never one for the fame' by Herman Fuselier, Louisiana for the DailyWorld.com published 12 November 2015. Open most books on Cajun music and you’ll see little or no information on Walter Mouton. Yet Grammy winners, like Wayne Toups and Steve Riley, and local favorites, such as Jackie Caillier and Kevin Naquin, have studied Mouton’s fluid accordion style note for note. In the late 1960s, Mouton recorded a rousing instrumental, “Scott Playboy Special,” which stood as his lone record for decades. The two-step is now considered a Cajun music standard. Mouton played at La Poussiere Cajun Dancehall in Breaux Bridge for 45 years, which included Saturday nights for 30 years straight. When Mouton retired in 2008, he had had enough. But he was pleased with the generations he made dance and smile. “I never was one for the fame,” said Mouton, who was born in 1938. “That’s why I never pushed to record. I was satisfied going out there, playing my music and watching the people enjoy it. “I was glad to be part of their evening. That’s the way I looked at it through most of my career. It was never work for me.” “I never cared to play in a restaurant. You couldn’t tell if they were coming to see you or coming to eat. In a dancehall, when they come and pay at the door, you know they were coming to see you.” Fans will come to see Mouton one more time when he plays for La Poussiere’s 60th anniversary celebration, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Patin Family, led by the late Ovey J. Patin and Mary L. Patin, have kept the Cajun music mecca going since 1955. High Performance, Wayne Toups and Jackie Caillier perform Saturday, before a reunion of Mouton and his Scott Playboys band at 3 p.m. More than 45 musicians have been Scott Playboys, including renowned names like Johnnie Allan (Guillot) and accordion builder Clarence “Junior” Martin. Mouton kept band rules simple – show up on time and show up sober. “I always told them, if you have a couple of problems and you feel like you want to hit the bottle, wait until 10:30 or 11, then you can hit it,” said Mouton. “I’m not going to let you drive home. I’ll go take you home myself.” “I figured it this way, how can you say something to correct people that are drinking when you’re drunk yourself? You can’t run a band and tell them what not to do and you’re tipsy yourself. It don’t work that way.” Mouton has been on stage since the age of 13, when he started the Playboys with Allan, Rodney Miller and Leeman Prejean. He’s played dancehalls stretching from the Rodair Club in Port Acres, Tex. to Richard’s Casino, a racetrack in Bristol with live music, dog fights and rooster fights, also known as Tee Maurice. Through the years, Mouton maintained day jobs as a tank builder in the oil field, a truck driver and freight hauler. He raised three boys and one girl. Mouton said a total of 57 years on the bandstand caused him to miss family events and other activities. Now that he’s retired, he goes six months or longer without touching an accordion. He looks back on his career with no regrets. “If you’re going to do it, you have to be dedicated to it. You can’t go one weekend and say I’m going to take off next weekend. “We buried my grandma on a Saturday afternoon and I wanted to take off. My daddy said “No, go. They’re expecting you. You’re not going out there to have fun. You’re going to do a job. Grandma would want you to go.’ So I went. “But it’s been good for me. I never made a bunch of money, but I never expected I’d get rich. I didn’t like the security of music. I didn’t need for that faucet to come down to a drip. I needed to eat every week and I had a family to take care of.” Want to go? Sixty years later, Goldman Thibodeaux collaborated with Calvin Carrière to bring back the sorrowful, joyous, beautiful sounds of Creole music in their first and only CD together,Les misères dan le coeur, released in fall 2000 by Louisiana Radio Records. According to the liner notes by Erik Charpentier, Thibodeaux, who was born near Lawtell, was widely admired as a singer at community functions, but he didn't learn to play the accordion until he was 50 years old. When Delton Broussard, the accordion player for the Lawtell Playboys, began to experience health problems, he invited Thibodeaux to sit in. After Broussard died, Thibodeaux became the band's regular accordionist. Calvin Carrière was the son of the late Eraste "Dolon" Carrière, the accordion player who teamed with his brother, fiddler the late Bébé Carrière, in the original Lawtell Playboys. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and admission is $35 (no table reservations; first come, first served). Geno Delafose (born February 6, 1971 in Eunice, Louisiana) is a zydeco accordionist and singer. He is one of the younger generations of the genre who has created the sound known as the nouveau zydeco. His sound is deeply rooted in traditional Creole music with strong influences from Cajun music and also country and western. His father is the famous zydeco accordion player John Delafose. Delafose was born and raised in Eunice, Louisiana. At the age of eight, he joined his father’s band, the Eunice Playboys as a rubboard player and continued to play with the band until his father’s death in 1994. He also appeared on the several of the bands recordings. He switched to the accordion in the early 1990s and started to play as an opening act for his father. In 1994, he debuted with album French Rockin’ Boogie on Rounder Records. The name of this album also became the name of his band with whom he still plays with today. He released two more albums from the label, before signing with Time Square label to release Everybody’s Dancin’ in 2003. He has also appeared on the compilation album Creole Bred: A Tribute to Creole & Zydeco released in 2004 on Vanguard Records. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the “Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album” category for his Le Cowboy Creole album (2007).He lives in Duralde, Louisiana near Eunice where he operates his Double D Ranch raising cattle and horses. Born and raised in Kenner, Louisiana,a suburb of New Orleans, Cameron became infatuated with the sounds of Cajun music at an early age, which is appropriate for the son of Cajun musician, Michael Dupuy. His father often took him to gigs where Cameron would always be on stage strumming a guitar, banging on spoons or anything he could get his hands on. As a result of Hurricane Katrina, Cameron was exposed to Cajun music after taking refuge in Lafayette, LA. On the last day of the evacuation, as his family and he were preparing dinner, Cameron finally convinced Mr. Rick to let him play the accordion sitting on the shelf. Mr. Rick was not eager since it was used to record a Grammy winning CD by Jimmy Breaux, but he decided to let him. From there, Cameron was hooked. Admission is $10 For more information call (337) 233-4077 Leroy Thomas was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and raised in Elton, Louisiana by a family of Zydeco musicians, including his father, Leo 'The Bull' Thomas, the only Zydeco musician to lead his band from the drums. At the age of eight, Leroy decided to become a drummer like his father, building his set out of five gallon paint buckets and playing it with tree branches for drumsticks and cardboard tubing from Christmas wrapping paper as a microphone. In his early teens, Leroy used his determination, imagination and resourcefulness to purchase and learn to play his first accordion. At the age of 18, he joined his father's band, and for 15 years they toured the world playing music together. In 1998, Leroy decided it was time to form his own band, and Leroy Thomas & the Zydeco Road Runners was born.
