 The Steirische Harmonika Worldchampionship and the national Austrian Championships, organised by the Harmonikaverband Verband Österreich (HVÖ) took place in Ausservillgraten in Osttirol, a small village with only 760 inhabitants.The entire little village took place and made all artists, no matter, whether small or big to real STARS. Many many audience gave huge applauses to all performers. Local authorities participated every day and beautiful weather made the Whole event SPECIAL. | in Frankrijk 22 – 29 juli 2017 Een week lang tango spelen in La Douce France op het landgoed van La Maison Neuve(Chatellerault) van 22 tot 29 juli. Deze workshop is bedoeld voor gevorderde en professionele musici, die zich willen verdiepen in de Argentijnse tango. Tijdens deze week spelen we het traditionele tangorepertoire en nieuwe composities, en maak je zodanig kennis met de ritmische, melodische en harmonische rijkdom van de tango. Het repertoire zal elke avond worden gepresenteerd op de milonga van La Maison Nueve. Om deel te nemen is het niet noodzakelijk te weten hoe je tango moet spelen. De workshop wordt gegeven door Kay Sleking (gitaar/contrabas). Naast de muziekworkshop is het ook mogelijk om tango dansles te volgen. Meer informatie hierover volgt. | Haapavesi Folk Music Festival is a special summer event held every year in the end of June, just after our midsummer. The festival consists of a five days long folk music course followed by the actual folk music Festival spanning four to five days. The Festival was founded in 1989 and the heart of the festival, the Folk Course, a few years earlier in 1987. The program of the festival consists of high quality folk music acts all over the world. Most of the artists represent the Finnish folk music scene, but international artists from all around the world form an essential part of the programme every year. The music from Ireland and North America is in the spotlight every year among music from other different and sometimes exotique countries and cultures. In addition, children haven’t been forgotten when it comes to the selection of artists. The programme consists of workshops, seminars and concerts in different stages, many of them acoustic. Teachers of the Folk course come from Finland and abroad as well. The course offers the participants the opportunity of getting familiar with different music cultures while also providing first-rate guidance in specific instruments. The course is targeted for all folk music lovers regardless of age. Children have their own teachers in the programme. The festival is organised by the Haapavesi Folk association with a small personnel and a large important group of volunteer workers. Sure, they are places of sadness but also they have happy memories of people’s life stories and experience. Wandering around and reading headstones can be an enlightening and sometimes interesting experience. For example the headstone of comedian Spike Milligan which quotes “I told you I was sick”. One of the most reflective gravesites was at a little, isolated cemetery on the far South Coast of NSW where we walked up to a far corner and saw two simple wooden crosses, one with MUM written on it and the other, DAD. Some time ago a friend of mine did a musical tour of her local cemetery in Tasmania, singing random songs. As the best ideas are often someone else’s, I pinched it. The difference in Forbes is that we have a multitude of musical talent in our local cemetery and I have either known, recorded and played music with them or researched their lives for our National Library of Australia collection. So, as part of Heritage Week Ollie and I decided it would be a nice thing to remember some of the talented musicians and entertainers of Forbes by visiting their gravesites, telling a few often humorous stories about them and singing a song or playing a tune. These people are the tradition bearers of Australia and their music is now played all over Australia. Sunday May 7 at 9:45 at the cemetery. We have limited the bookings to 40 people only and I understand that many places have already been booked. It will be a lot of fun. Phone Council on 68502300 to book – it is free. Ben Hall – 1837-1865: Noted folklorist and bushranging authority, Professor Graham Seal of Curtin University WA is of the opinion that the Ben Hall songs are among the best outlaw ballads in Australia, if not the world. We will share the best known with you along with a poem about Hall from Paddy Godden. Kate Foster (Kelly) 1863-1898: Sister of Ned and buried only 25m from Ben Hall. Where else in Australia would you find two of the best known bushranging dynasties so close? We will share a poem about Kate. Ebb Wren (1914-1992) – Singer, yarn spinner, musician, Ebb could do the lot. He played and repaired pianos and other instruments. Ebb was also a great raconteur spinning tales of his life as a bushman and steam loco driver. Ebb’s amazing memory for the words of songs learnt from older performers has preserved these songs for later generations. They would have been lost but for Ebb. Harry Schaefer (1876-1954) – Harry was the ultimate musician having the ability to play both by ear and by sheet music. He would hear a tune from another player then go home and write it down. In this way he preserved and recorded much dance music that would have been lost. Harry played over 17 different instruments. The Harry Schaefer collection of handwritten music is in The National Library of Australia collection. Dave Mathias (1914-2006) – Champion accordion and Mouth Organ player, teller of yarns and fixer of everything. Dave was legally blind but that did not stop him from enjoying life to the fullest extent. Dave learnt many of his tunes from his father, Steve, a concertina player of note and played in the Mathias Orchestra at venues all around the Forbes district. |

Am 13. Januar erscheint das Jubiläums-Album „Warum gerade ich“: 16 neue Liedern und fünf erfolgreiche MaPi-Liedern im „Nashville-Sound“ begeistern die Fangemeinde. In den österreichischen Album-Verkaufscharts erreicht das neue Album auf Anhieb Platz vier in der ersten Woche und Platz drei in der zweiten Woche. Marc sagt: Die Idee und Melodie zu „Warum gerade ich“ kam mir auf unserem Flug nach Nashville zu den Aufnahmen einiger Songs für das neue Album. Der deutsche Texter Matthias Teriet schickte mir kurz vor meiner Abreise nach Amerika einen interessanten Text der zu mir passte, aber die Headline war mir nicht aussagekräftig genug. Für mich war klar, dass dieses Lied „Warum gerade ich“ heißen muss. Mir ist bei meinen Liedern immer sehr wichtig, dass sie mitten aus dem Leben kommen und sich viele damit identifizieren.
