Bondbröllopsschottis is a more than a hundred year old typical Swedish schottische composed by Oskar Sundquist, now in a new musical arrangement by Lars Karlsson. The Schottische is one of the oldest of all dances, one of the most fundamental of the dance steps. The Schottische is a partnered country dance, that apparently originated in Bohemia and was popular in Victorian era ballrooms. |

Internationalen Akkordeonfestivals Vienna steht der erste Teil des Abends ganz im Zeichen der Erinnerung an Hannes Thanheiser. Thanheiser, 1925 geboren, Schauspieler, Musiker und Betreiber des 1. Akkordeon-Museums (in Melk/Nö.) verstarb im Juni 2014. Der Dramatiker und Autor Felix Mitterer wird an den Menschen und Künstler erinnern, den er einmal als seinen Lieblingsschauspieler bezeichnet hat.  Der beste Nachwuchs-Harmonikaspieler der Steiermark ist gekürt: THOMAS HASENBERGER aus Wartberg – Musikschüler in Mautern – holte sich heuer beim „Steirischen Harmonikawettbewerb 2014“ in der Steinhalle Lannach den ersten Platz! Der ORF Steiermark übertrug LIVE und österreichweit in ORF 2. Durch die Sendung führte Moderator Sepp LOIBNER . Sehr spannend wurde es heute bei der Endrunde des 19. „Steirischen Harmonikawettbewerbs“ in der Steinhalle Lannach: Alle fünf Finalisten – Thomas HASENBERGER, Florian MITTEREGGER, Fabian PAAR, Nico PERHOFER und Markus WIESER – stellten ihr hervorragendes Können unter Beweis: Die jungen Musiker zwischen zehn und vierzehn Jahren präsentierten jeweils ein Pflicht- und ein Kürstück und begeisterten damit hunderte ZuseherInnen vor Ort und ein großes Publikum vor den TV-Bildschirmen. Die prominente Experten-Jury – Caroline KOLLER, Franz POSCH, Prof. Sepp STRUNZ und Ernst ZWANZLEITNER – hatte die sehr schwierige Aufgabe, die einzelnen Darbietungen zu bewerten und damit den „besten Nachwuchs-Harmonikaspieler der Steiermark“ zu küren. Die Platzierungen: THOMAS HASENBERGER aus Wartberg überzeugte mit seinen Aufführungen – „Kugeln muaß er“ (Pflichtstück) und „Falkenflug“ (Kürstück) – und gewann mit insgesamt 67 Punkten und damit 1 Punkt Vorsprung den ersten Preis, eine Steirische Harmonika der Firma „STRASSER“ im Wert von € 5000,-- (siehe rechts oben). Hasenberger wurde von seinem Musikschullehrer Gottfried Hubmann auf diesen Wettbewerb vorbereitet. Hubmann hatte in den letzten elf Jahren 11 Kandidaten im Fernsehfinale. Mit den Darbietungen „Druck nua zua“ (Pflichtstück) und „Sulmtaler Walzer“ (Kürstück) erspielte sich FABIAN PAAR (unten 1. Reihe Mitte) aus Breitenau am Hochlantsch den zweiten Platz und damit eine Steirische Harmonika von „Harmonikaerzeugung SCHMIDT“. Die Teilnehmer FLORIAN MITTEREGGER (2. Reihe rechts) aus Kapfenberg und NICO PERHOFER (1. Reihe links) aus Koglhof (sie belegten beide den dritten Platz) sowie MARKUS WIESER (2. Reihe links) aus Groß St. Florian wurden mit wertvollen Preisen des Veranstalterverbands Österreich ausgezeichnet. Dieser Bewerb ist die Verwirklichung eines vorbildhaften pädagogischen Konzepts, das sich besonders der Jugendförderung annimmt. Für die Teilnahme an diesem ORF-Bewerb, wo man einige Vorrunden bestreiten muss, bevor man das große Finale erreicht, üben die Mädchen und Burschen monatelang.   Videos above from World Music category held for the first time in 2014.The 40th International Città di Castelfidardo Prize and Award for accordion soloists and groups will take place from the 17 to 20th September 2015 and will be open to all accordionists. A special feature is no application fee - it is completely free to celebrate the 40th Anniversary. The new Artistic Director Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, pictured left with Castelfidardo Mayor Mirco Soprani, released the new 40th edition PIF logo, and the 2015 competition regulations in Italian, English and Chinese at: 2015PIF The competitions feature the World Music categories which were new in 2014.. Category N is open to accordion soloists and diatonic accordion soloists. Competitors, if multi-instrumentalists, can perform some pieces on accordion and others on diatonic accordion. Competitors must present a programme of their choice of maximum duration of 15 minutes, including arrangements and creative elaborations of pieces from the music tradition of their country of origin or of other countries. Even if is not a binding rule, the jury will appreciate if competitors perform at least 1 piece from their own country’s repertoire. Original compositions inspired by ethnic music are also admitted. Category World Music O Ensemble music – no age limit Category O is open to orchestras and groups with no age limit, comprised of at least one accordion or one diatonic accordion (of any model) or a bandoneon or a digital accordion, that should have the main role in the ensemble. Groups with more than one bellows instrument or with only bellows instruments (like the ones above) are accepted. Competitors must present a programme of their choice with a maximum duration of 20 minutes, including arrangements and creative elaborations of pieces from the world music, ethno jazz, ethnic, folk and traditional repertoires. Original compositions generically inspired by ethnic music are accepted. Apart from the quality of the performance, the jury will also consider the artistic quality of the group. The competition includes solo, group and orchestra sections for different ages, for classical, chamber music, light music (varieté, folk, jazz, Latin American repertoire), and World Music categories.  7.30pm every 2nd Thursday of the month. This Workshop is held at The Ark, King William Street, Needham Market IP6 8AE. Suffolk has a long history of traditional music and Suffolk Folk aim to keep it that way! They run a monthly workshop aimed at bridging the gap between playing at home and in public sessions. It also gives participants the experience of playing together as a band. The workshops are designed to attract all age groups from youngsters upwards and all acoustic instruments able to play in the keys of D and G. The music workshops are designed to help people become more confident playing traditional music socially, and are aimed at Beginners and Improvers. The tunes are played at a pace slow enough so that everyone can join in. They also cover playing as a band, helping with arrangements, harmonies/counter melodies and other dark mysteries. The workshop is run by Suffolk Folk's Maggie Moore and Stan Bloor who play together in the folk band Pluck 'n' Squeeze. The cost is £2 and Suffolk Folk members get a 25% discount! | Helmikuussa 2015 koetaan ja eletään seitsemännentoista kerran Kokkolan Talviharmonikka. Monipuolinen, vireä ja vuosi vuodelta tasaisesti kasvava festivaali on anniltaan runsas ja tunnelmaltaan lämmin piristysruiske keskellä kipakointa talvea. Viikko yhtä soittoa Totuttuun tyyliin helmikuisen viikon anti on jälleen yllätyksellinen, monipuolinen ja mielenkiintoinen. Festivaalin aloituspäivän, sunnuntai 15.2. alkaa pierteästi. Sisäsuunnistusta haitarin tahtiin, kahvikonsertti, keskipohjalaista musiikkia ja slaavilaista poljentoa suoraan Pietarista. On vanhoja tuttuja elementtejä ja uusia aluevaltauksia. Harmonikka soi joka puolella kylää, kulmilla ja toreilla. Wagneria harmonikka tuulettaa konservatoriolla. Nuoret virtuoosit, Kallentorin tunnelma, konsertteja lapsille ja senioreille, harmonikkaorkesteri ja oopperalaulaja! Kattaus on laidasta laitaan. Toista kertaa festivaaliviikolla on Pietarsaari-päivä, jolloin tapahtumien keskipisteessä säteilee rakas naapurikaupunkimme. Il sera animé par six musiciens professionnels autour d’un programme commun, adapté selon les niveaux des participants, répartis en trois groupes tout au long de la semaine : groupe 1 : initiation, découverte – groupe 2 : approfondissement – groupe 3 : master-class. À raison de deux animateurs par niveau, tous les stagiaires seront encadrés en nombre limité pour être suivis au mieux et trouver des réponses à leurs attentes et à leurs besoins. The nine finalists will be announced on April 3 and will perform at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin on Saturday, April 25, at a free concert and playoff. One winner from each category (polka, zydeco, and conjunto) will be selected. All three winners will perform at Texas Folklife’s highly acclaimed annual Accordion Kings & Queens Festival at Houston’s Miller Outdoor Theatre on Saturday, June 6, 2015, with Texas roots music accordion stars and legends. The three Big Squeeze 2015 Grand Prize Winners will receive a prize package valued at more than $4,000, including a cash prize, a brand new Hohner accordion, performance opportunities in Austin and Houston, publicity and other professional opportunities. |

 By Kate Mabry, HoumaToday.comA local musician's commitment to the community was recognized last month as he continues to perform for seniors in Chauvin after more than 30 years. During the Chauvin Senior Center's annual Christmas party on Dec. 16, the Terrebonne Council on Aging presented Larry White, 70, with an award for his unyielding service to the center. “While I was playing, they stopped and presented the plaque to me then,” he said. “It's nice to know people appreciate what you do for them. As long as God will let me bang on the keyboard and play the accordion, I'll keep playing there.” Though the award was a surprise for White, Merline, his wife of 50 years, said she had trouble trying to keep it a secret. “I knew for about two months before,” she said with a smile. Arlene Levron, manager at the Chauvin Senior Center for nearly 17 years, said White is a valued member of their community. “Everybody knows him here,” she said. “When he comes, the people enjoy his music so much. Everybody just loves it when he plays.” White, who worked in the oil industry, began playing at the senior center on his days off, and once he retired about 19 years ago, he then performed every other month during the center's monthly birthday parties. “When I'm out there, sometimes I play three or four hours if that's how long the party lasts,” he said. “I just enjoy playing and seeing the people laugh, have a good time and forget their problems.” White also plays keyboard and accordion at Bayou Delight Restaurant in Bayou Black at 6 p.m. every third Friday and Saturday of the month. |

 Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe, Chubby Carrier and the Swamp Band, paid tribute on Tuesday December 30th to the bandleader’s father, the late Roy Carrier, during their 5th annual tribute party at Slim’s Y-Ki-Ki in Opelousas.Also performing were Jeffrey Broussard and the Creole Cowboys, Corey Ledet and His Zydeco Band and Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie. “I always like to go old school,” organizer Troy “Dikki Du” Carrier said. The non-smoking event was a successor to the holiday bash that Roy Carrier hosted for more than 15 years before his death in 2010 at the Offshore Lounge in Lawtell. For almost 30 years at that location, the elder Carrier allowed newcomers to jam with his band The Night Rockers on Thursday nights and encouraged them to carry forward the traditions of zydeco music. “Musicians who didn’t know how to play zydeco, that’s where they learned,” Dikki Du said. The lounge helped to launch many musicians, including Delafose, Beau Jocque and Carrier’s Grammy Award-winning son Chubby. Roy Carrier developed his singular accordion style after a farming accident that claimed part of an index finger. Like his father, a sharecropper, he mostly played gigs in St. Landry and surrounding parishes. His primary job on an offshore oil rig - seven days on, seven days off - allowed him time to practice when he was away and perform and record while he was at home. After he retired from the rig in the late 1980s, Roy Carrier helped to spread the popularity of zydeco by touring beyond Louisiana. Wherever he performed, he encouraged his fans to visit Louisiana. That’s how the Carrier Festival around New Year’s Eve became a destination event for out-of-town music lovers, his son said, “So many people were coming down for New Year’s and the Carriers’ event”, Dikki Du added, other venues started to book special events that make the turn of the year a busy season in Acadiana for visiting zydeco dancers and musicians from coast to coast. Proceeds from the event may help speed up the reopening of the Offshore Lounge, which closed after his father’s death. Earlier this year, he paid off his father’s $10,000 loan on the club. “Now I can sleep at night,” the younger Carrier joked. “I took on the challenge to keep the Offshore Lounge on the ground in Lawtell,” he said. “I wanted it to be paid off before anything else happens there.” |

Dazwischen erklingt immer wieder Dallers rohe Wirtshausstimme. Mit ihrem schneidenden Ton erzählt er vom Besuch auf dem Vietnamesenmarkt, den Machenschaften eines Heilpraktikers und vom etwas fremd wirkenden Brauchtum auf einer niederbayerischen Beerdigung. Am Ende stimmt er gar das Klagelied eines Grillhendls an. Auch die Tagespolitik fließt unabdingbar mit ein, ist sie doch immer wieder Ziel seines beißenden Spotts. Dallers Humor ist knochentrocken und doch gespickt mit Schenkelklopfern. His playing follows in the traditions of Sliabh Luachra, with his influences ranging from the bowing of Padraig O Keeffe and Denis Murphy to the time spent in his youth playing with local box players Johnny O Leary, Jimmy Doyle and John Brosnan. In 2005 he launched a landmark recording of Sliabh Luachra music entitled ‘Different State’ and in 2007 he released a CD with Riverdance and Celtic Woman Uilleann Piper John O Brien.
