| The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on February 10, 2013, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT and will be hosted for the second time by LL Cool J. Nominations were announced on December 5, 2012 on prime-time television as part of "The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live! – Countdown to Music's Biggest Night", a one-hour special co-hosted by LL Cool J & Taylor Swift and broadcast live on CBS from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.[1] Fun, Frank Ocean, Mumford & Sons, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Dan Auerbach received the most nominations with six each, all of whom were consisted of male artists.[2] The Recording Academy introduced three new categories to the 78 awards previously presented at the 54th ceremony—Best Classical Compendium, Best Latin Jazz Album, and Best Urban Contemporary Album, bringing it to a total of 81 awards.[3 Also nominated for the Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano): Los Tucanes De Tijuana mit der CD "365 Días" Results will be online in our next edition/March |

 The Kokkola Winter Accordion Festival is a modern city festival held every February since 1999.This popular festival presents the accordion as a musical instrument in all its versatility, offering a variety of performances and events. Artistic director since the festival’s debut is Raimo Vertainen, who also conducts the acclaimed Guardia Nueva Tango Orchestra. The festival week culminates in a grand performance of this soulful and spirited orchestra featuring a number of bandoneon players. Joining Guardia Nueva each year are guest artists from among Finland ’s most renowned musicians. Video above is of Guardia Nueva performing earlier this year. Other highlights include Richard Galliano, soloist with the Osthrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, the first time that Galliano has performed as a soloist with orchestra in Finland. The concert will broadcast live on the YLE Radio 1 channel. Teemu Haapaniemi Accordion Goes Laser, a show with disco pieces from the 1980's-decade. Sie siegten dreimal bei der österreichischen Vorentscheidung zum Grand Prix der Volksmusik und sind doch ehrliche und sympathische Burschen geblieben. So ist der Titel „Der Fidlmann“ ihrer neuesten CD eine liebevolle Ehrbezeugung für alle, die sich ganz dem typischen Geigensound verschrieben haben. Die Zillertaler Schürzenjäger Die Schürzenjäger sind zurück im Rampenlicht. Hey Mann- Es ist wieder Schürzenjägerzeit! Als sich die Schürzenjäger 2007 verabschiedeten, bedauerten viele Fans diesen Schritt zutiefst. 34 Jahre lang standen Peter Steinlechner und Alfred Eberharter, die Gründer der Zillertaler Schürzenjäger gemeinsam auf der Bühne. In dieser Zeit begeisterten sie ein Millionenpublikum mit ihrem ureigenen Stil. Die Studioalben und eine Reihe von Hit-Kopplungen wurden insgesamt über 10 Millionen Mal verkauft.  Mehr als 500 Besucher in St.Peter-Freienstein!In St.Peter/Freienstein wurde am 3. November 2012 im Rahmen der Radio-Sendung „Klingende Steiermark“ der neu ins Leben gerufene HARMONIKA-AWARD zum ersten Mal überreicht. Das Programm, das auch vom Studio Steiermark aufgezeichnet wurde, moderierte in lockerer Weise Karl Lenz vom ORF. Musiklehrer Gottfried Hubmann, der zusammen mit seiner Gattin Gabi das Programm zusammengestellt und organisiert hatte, konnte dabei die Florianer Tanzbodenmusi, das Schlossensemble, den Laintaler Viergesang, die Bauernkapelle des MV St. Peter und die Edler-Musi zu diesem ausverkauften Volksmusikabend engagieren. Nach den Begrüßungsworten von Vizebürgermeister Herbert Walcher und den Grußworten von Nationalrätin Andrea Gessl Ranftl und dem Vizepräsidenten des HVÖ, KR Dr. Leopold Dercsaly, wurde dem Abend eine besondere Note durch die Steirischen Harmonika-Solisten und Duos von der Musikschule Mautern und St.Peter-Freienstein, die aus der Klasse Hubmann stammen, verliehen. Mit dabei waren die schon vielfach ausgezeichneten Bra-cher-Buam, Michael Bernhard, Roberto Lanzmaier, Patrick Beichler und David Schneeberger. Um auch viele seiner jüngsten Schüler beim Konzert auftreten lassen zu können, stellte Gottfried Hubmann ein Harmonika-Orchester zusammen, das in vorzüglicher Weise seine Melodien zum Besten gab. Am Gesichtsausdruck der jungen Spielerinnen und Spielern konnte man die Freude am Musizieren erkennen. Für sie war es sicher eine Motivation, sich weiterhin dem Harmonika-Spiel zu widmen um auch solche Erfolge zu erreichen. Auch die Volkstanzgruppe trat im Vorprogramm auf und zeigte uns, dass Volks- und Brauchtumspflege in St. Peter besonders groß geschrieben wird. Es war eine Freude zu sehen, mit welcher Begeisterung die kleinen Sprösslinge in ihren schönen Trachten ihre Tänze mit musikalischer Begleitung von Marco Sternad ausführten. Der Höhepunkt des Abends war aber die Verleihung des 1. Steirischen Harmonika-Awards 2012 durch den Harmonikaverband Österreichs und die Volkskultur Steiermark. Dieser Award ist Ausdruck der Wertschätzung für Personen, die rund um die Steirische Harmonika besonders viel zum kulturellen Geschehen in der Steiermark beigetragen haben. Verliehen wird der Preis in den Kategorien: Jugend, Volksmusikgruppe und für ein Lebenswerk. Diese Auszeichnung, die vom Fachvorstand des HVÖ, Gottfried Hubmann, BA und dem Musikschullehrer und Lektor der Musikuniversität Graz, Mag. Johann Murg, ins Leben gerufen wurde, wird nach eingehender Beratung über das Schaffen, Wirken und den jahrelangen Leistungen der Kandidaten, vergeben. Das Fach-Gremium besteht aus Prof. Mag. Helmut Koini, Fachreferent Prof. Siegfried Greimler, Mag. Herbert Krienzer vom Volksliedwerk und Dr. Monika Primas vom Referat Volkskultur, sowie den Erfindern dieses Awards, den Autoren dieses Artikels. Der Award 2012, der vom Weizer Künstler Albert Schmuck gestaltet wurde, ging an den 19-jährigen Harmonika-Solisten Sebastian Thier (oben) aus Übersbach bei Fürstenfeld für den Jugendpreis. Sebastian konnte bei vielen Wettbewerben erste Preise für sich verbuchen und erreichte 2011 den Vizeweltmeister-Titel auf der Harmonika. Bemerkenswert ist, dass er schon bei über 200 Anlässen das Publikum mit seiner Musik erfreute. Den Preis für die Volksmusikgruppe erhielten die Gebrüder Zwanzleitner aus St. Gallen (rechts), die über 35 Jahre Volksmusik pflegen und ihre Musik in der Besetzung von zwei Harmonikas und Gitarre in einer einzigartigen Form vermitteln. Prof. Max Rosenzopf (links) wurde für sein Lebenswerk mit dem Award ausgezeichnet. Er hat durch seine unermüdliche Feldforschung Spielgut für die Steirische Harmonika niedergeschrieben, um dieses für den Musikunterricht in den Steirischen Musikschulen weitervermitteln zu können. Ihm ist es auch zu verdanken, dass die Steirische Harmonika in den 60er Jahren den Einzug in die Musikschulen des Landes Steiermark gefunden hat. In der Laudatio, die Gottfried Hubmann, BA, Dr. Monika Primas und Mag. Johann Murg hielten, konnte sich das Publikum über die Ausgezeichneten ein aussagekräftiges Bild machen. Danach wurden viele Interviews mit den Ausgezeichneten durch das Fernsehteam „Steiermark heute“ und von anderen Sendern aufgenommen. Der nächste Harmonika-Award wird erst wieder im Jahre 2014 verliehen. Bis dahin wünschen wir allen „Harmonikanern“ Kreativität und viel Freude am Musizieren. Gottfried Hubmann, BA, und Mag.   14th Vienna International Accordion Festival runs from 23 February to the 24th March 2013. The program of the event is available for download at: 2013WienThe packed program includes international and home-grown artists alike - and on 14 different stages, from jazz club Porgy & Bess to the Filmcasino. Mostly double concerts, which present two accordion bands in a single evening, are on the calendar from 23 February to 24 March. Around 40 concerts reflect the full stylistic range of the accordion between tradition and lots of innovation. International performers include: Norwegian Guro von Germeten with her Schwindelfrei Orchestra, Kimmo Pohjonen, Lars Karlsson with Ouivind Farmen, Motion Trio, Denis Colin Trio, world music giant Bratsch from France, Blowzabella from the UK and Melingo from Argentina. The Austrian accordion scene is represented by the young talent Paul Schuberth, Maria Theres Stickler, Christian Bakanic and Walther Stojka. Well known hereabouts are Willi Resetarits & Stubenblues, the Vienna Tschuschenkapelle, Dobrek Bistro and, of course, the Austrian perennial accordion star Otto Lechner, who conducts the Zieharmonisches Orchestra at the opening gala. Also recommended are the silent movie matinee with live accordion accompaniment in the Filmcasino and the children's program Magic Afternoon. |

Dabei beschäftigen wir uns mit folgenden Fragen: Was braucht Musik, um tanzbar zu sein und trotzdem Arrangement zu bleiben? Wie können wir mögliche Stolpersteine für die Tänzer vermeiden? Wie wird aus der Musik ein abwechslungsreicher und spannender Hör- und Spielgenuss? Mögliche Themen sind Harmonisierung, rhythmische Begleitung (auch für Melodieinstrumente) und kleine Improvisationen, bei denen sich jeder mit seinen individuellen spieltechnischen Fähigkeiten einbringen kann. Orchesterarbeit und das Spielen in kleineren Gruppen können einander abwechseln. Voraussetzungen: Jedes Niveau, Grundkenntnisse auf dem eigenen Instrument, Notenkenntnisse sind hilfreich. Diatonisches Akkordeon für Anfänger/innen Leitung: Karsten Evers Es werden die grundlegenden Kenntnisse über Aufbau, Haltung und Spielweise des Instruments vermittelt. Anhand einfacher Stücke werden das Melodiespiel, die Bassbegleitung im 2/4 und 3/4 Takt und die Koordination der Luftklappe geübt. Alle Einsteiger/innen sind herzlich willkommen. Themen wie Melodieverzierungen und -variationen sowie Akkordbegleitungen werden anhand von einfachen Musikstücken behandelt. Konzept Beim 17th Irish Music Workshop Weekend möchten wir ein konzeptionell neues Angebot ausprobieren. Das Zusammenspiel bzw das musikalische Gruppenerlebnis steht dieses Mal im Mittelpunkt der themenbezogenen, instrumentenübergreifenden Ensemble- und Gruppenangebote. Wir folgen auf diese Weise dem mehrfach geäußerten Teilnehmerwunsch, die bereits erlernten instrumentalen Fähigkeiten in einem geeigneten Rahmen ein- und umzusetzen. Vom wenig erfahrenen Anfänger mit einigen Vorkenntnissen über den Quereinsteiger aus anderen Musikrichtungen bis zum fortgeschrittenen Musiker können alle Teilnehmer ihren Fähigkeiten entsprechend integriert werden. Auch die sonst seltener angebotenen Instrumente können zum Einsatz kommen, und darüber hinaus können Nichtinstrumentalisten entweder mit ihrer Singstimme oder ihrem Tanzbein am Wochenende aktiv teilnehmen. Wir konnten dieses Mal zwei neue Gastdozenten für das Wochenende gewinnen: Andrew Cadie wird in einem Ensembleworkshop das Thema "SONGS" facettenreich aufarbeiten, und Bernadette Mullane lädt zu viel Spaß beim irish Ceili Dance ein. Stefanie Bieber macht Melodieinstrumentalisten "Fit for the Session" und Ekhart Topp leitet den Ensembleworkshop "TUNES", in dem es um alle Aspekte der Bandarbeit gehen wird.   Concertina Cruinniú on 8, 9 and 10 February 2013 in Miltown Malbay Oidhreacht an Chláir presents the first annual Concertina Cruinniú on 8, 9 and 10 February 2013 in Miltown Malbay. While well-established annual events such as the uilleann pipers’ Tionól, the harpists’ Cúirt Cruitearachta, Cruinniú na bhFliúit in Cúil Aodha and Cairdeas na bhFidléirí’s fiddle week in Glencolumcille provide a forum for enthusiasts and practitioners on most traditional instruments, there has been no similar celebration of the concertina in Ireland for a number of years. Situated in the heart of west Clare, where concertina playing has been an integral part of traditional music life for centuries and where it is currently thriving, Miltown Malbay is an ideal venue for such a festival and the event will salute the instrument’s special place in the local musical landscape.  The historic and picturesque village of Cobargo on the far south coast of New South Wales has been hosting this fun-filled weekend of music, dance, song, comedy and poetry and yarn-telling for the past 18 years.Over 200 performers converge on the Cobargo Showground over the last weekend in February and provide a pageant of Australian and international talent. The next festival will be held on the 21st, 22nd & 23rd February, 2014. The festival started out as a small celebration in the village centre but the growth in popularity of the festival resulted in a move to the Cobargo Showground in 2005. This has been recognised as a positive move in the development of the festival due to the beautiful rural setting, ample space and excellent facilities (including onsite camping with all amenities). Being fully self-contained means that it is great for young children and the festival is very family-friendly. It has also enabled the expansion of both the children’s activities and the dance program. The Cobargo Showground is situated on the Bermagui Road. It's a short walk to the Cobargo village where there is a good pub, coffee shops, a supermarket and service station. There's also some tempting craft and antique shops. | Das erstmals so benannte EUROPÄISCHE STEIRISCHE-HARMONIKA-FESTIVAL vom 30. Mai bis 2. Juni 2013 verspricht ein Event der Sonderklasse zu werden. Vereint es doch unter diesem „Überbegriff“ drei Wettbewerbe auf hohem Niveau: • die bereits 8. Harmonika-WM • den 20. Österreichischen Wettbewerb • und erstmals den Deutschen Wettbewerb (Gästeklassen) Wahrend der Internationale Wettbewerb (Harmonika-WM) in 2 Kategorien (Junioren und Weltmeisterklasse) durchgeführt wird, geben sowohl der österreichische als auch der deutsche Wettbewerb – beginnend von den Kleinsten bis hinauf zu den Erwachsenen – allen Altersklassen die Möglichkeit, sich mit Gleichaltrigen und Gleichgesinnten auf dem selben Niveau zu messen. Ebenso sind natürlich wieder die Volksmusikgruppen eingeladen. Der Harmonikaverband Österreichs (HVÖ) hat diesmal die Organisation dem EUROPAHAUS MAYRHOFEN im Zillertal/Tirol übertragen und erwartet sich hervorragende Kandidaten- und Besucherzahlen. Besonders erfreulich ist die konstruktive und freundschaftliche Kooperation mit dem Deutschen Harmonikaverband (DHV), um den deutschen Steirische-Harmonika-Spielern die Möglichkeiten für einen adäquaten Wettstreit bieten zu können. Wie schon üblich, werden auch heuer die Kandidaten aller Kategorien die Sicherheit haben, dass ihre musikalischen Bemühungen und Intentionen gerecht beurteilt werden, wurden doch wieder nur anerkannte internationale Fachleute für die Jurys ausgewählt. Auch einer der Gründe, warum sich die HVÖ-Wettbewerbe niveaumäßig von sogenannten Wald- und Wiesenmeisterschaften unterscheiden und dafür entsprechend frequentiert werden. Größen der österreichischen und deutschen Harmonikaszene werden entweder auftreten und/oder als Wertungsrichter anwesend sein. Im Europahaus wird es an allen Abenden sehr anspruchsvolle und schwungvolle Veranstaltungen geben. Die Sieger können sich nicht nur schöne Trophäen erspielen, wie immer sind in der Harmonika-WM auch attraktive Preisgelder zu gewinnen.  Alex is heading to one of his favorite towns to perform in—New Braunfels, TX! On Fat Tuesday- February 12, The Alex Meixner Band will be doing a special concert at the Historic Brauntex Theatre. This promises to be a very unique show, as he and the boys in the band will be getting the opportunity to stretch out with some new repertoire, as well as performing some of our fans’ Wurstfest favorites. Also Matt Tolentino will be on hand opening for Alex with his one of kind blend of old time- traditional jazz and other “songs everyone has forgotten”. Possible participation of Tino up on stage to play a few tunes with the band as well! (It’s been way too long since their good friend has been on stage with his bass saxophone, ukulele and megaphone!!!!) | Antti Paalanen, accordionist who created a new acoustic sound with the diatonic accordion, and gave it a new name - the Breathbox - is one of the leading musicians in modern Finnish folk music. He has a powerful, open-minded command of his instrument, and his hypnotic and minimalistic tunes tell stories about the world of today. After a successful appearance at the WOMEX 2011 he has been widely recognized by the music professionals around the world. Now he’s heading to Belgium with Norwegian fiddler Ragnhild Furebotten’s Never on a Sunday group. The tour begins from Antwerpen on February 12th and ends in Reoselare on February 16th. Mais Digresk c’est aussi et avant tout une musique à danser de basse et haute bretagne. Une singularité qui, rien qu’en 2010, permet au groupe d’afficher plus de 40 concerts et festoù-noz dont le festival InterCeltique de Lorient, Rock’n Solex ou encore Yaouank. Cathy, Josie, Catherine et Dominique sont amies depuis presque 30 ans et cela fait 15 ans cette année que ces quatre chanteuses ont formé leur groupe. C’est l’amitié, le chant et le plaisir de se retrouver qui les unissent. Leur répertoire de « Fest-Noz » essentiellement Gallo nous emmène du Centre Bretagne à la Loire-Atlantique en passant par le Morbihan. Depuis 2003, quatre musiciens les ont rejointes et c’est dans la bonne humeur, l’envie de chanter et surtout de partager avec les danseurs que l’alternance des voix et l’accompagnement des musiciens permettent d’enflamer les festoù-noz.  Thursday February 7th at 8:00pm in UTC+01 on Deschamps ChannelMaster Class for Diatonic by Danilo di Paolonicola (picture left). He is Teacher of the first experimental course in Italy for diatonic button accordion at the Conservatory of L’Aquila "A. Casella", and he is artistic director of the festival "Etnie Musicali", an international competition for diatonic button accordion and accordion players organized by the Musical Association Interamnia World Music . He was a winner of six "World Championships" of diatonic button accordion (1987, 88, 89, 90, 91, 95) and of numerous national and international competitions. He has performed at concerts in many different parts of the world. |
