| The Carrefour mondial de l’accordéon is an annual and international music festival taking place in Montmagny (Chaudière-Appalaches) during Labor Day weekend, since 34 years. The program presents artists from Quebec, Canada but also from many other countries. The musicians display all the tones of the accordion on our indoor and outdoor stages. The organisation also manages a music school in Montmagny where kids and adults can learn to play the instrument of their choice.   The closing date for entries is September 3rd, for the PIF 2023, 48th International Accordion Prize "Città di Castelfidardo" held in Castelfidardo from September 13th to 17th, 2023.Artistic Director of the festival and competitions is Antonio Spaccarotella (picture above right). The competition, which "attracts hundreds of bellows instrument talents from all over the world… will feature a program of large-scale events, including unpublished projects, first performances, concerts rich in artistic influences entrusted to big names and rising stars of the international music scene, moments of encounter between music and original theatre, teaching and research projects and many other novelties". | Video: “No Se Vuelve a Repetir” (Video Oficial) Intocable, the Tejano/Norteño group from Zapata, Texas, has achieved a new milestone on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart. The group’s latest single, “No Se Vuelve a Repetir,” has climbed to No. 4 on the chart dated Aug. 26, 2023, extending its record for the most top 10s on the list to 47. The song, which was released on March 16, 2023, via Good I Music, is the second track from Intocable’s forthcoming album (release date to be announced). It was written by Carlos Preciado and Ricardo Muñoz, the lead vocalist and accordionist of the group. According to Luminate, the song gained 52% in audience impressions in the U.S. during the week ending Aug. 17, earning the Greatest Gainer honor. Intocable broke the record for the most top 10s on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart earlier this year, when “No Me Hablen de Amor” rose from No. 12 to No. 2 on the chart dated Jan. 28, 2023. The group surpassed Los Tigres del Norte, who held the record with 45 top 10s since the chart’s inception in 1994. Since then, Intocable has added two more top 10s to its tally: “Un Poquito Tuyo,” which peaked at No. 1 in April, and “No Se Vuelve a Repetir”. “No Se Vuelve a Repetir” also rises to a new peak on the overall Latin Airplay chart, jumping from No. 31 to No. 14. The song is part of Intocable’s Evolución Tour 2023, a 61-date tour around North America, which will conclude with Texas dates in November. Archie Churchill-Moss continues to support beginner melodeon players in these enjoyable once-a month workshops. Each 2.5 hour session will present a new challenge, with time for individual help to support less confident / less advanced players and to stretch more ambitious / more accomplished musicians. You’ll be learning new tunes and techniques each month, while also developing a working knowledge of music theory, and your own creativity as the course progresses. New students are welcome to join the course, and you may book for individual classes or in advance for the full term. Archie Churchill-Moss: His engaging teaching style comes from a wealth of experience in his position as senior lecturer in ‘Folk Music’ at Leeds College of Music and teaching on the National Youth Folk Ensemble residentials. Organizers are preparing, trying to satisfy the demand for Creole Culture and Zydeco Music. Festival executive director Lena Charles says that locally and nationwide, music fans are eager to return to Southwest Louisiana to experience firsthand the original “keepers of the culture, the tellers of the stories.” The festival takes place on September 2, 2023at the Yambilee Festival Grounds with multiple activities leading up to that date. This year the festival pays tribute to Pioneers, the ones who help the original organization of “The Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival". The lineup includes hit-makers such as Grammy winner Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band, Grammy nominees Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie and Nathan Williams & the Zydeco Cha Cha’s, Jeremy Frugé & The Zydeco Hot Boyz, Rusty Metoyer & Zydeco Krush and Special Guest, “The Legend Chris Ardoin & NuStep Zydeco.” The Treasures of Opelousas, a group of concerned citizens, feared that Zydeco and Creole music were dying. In response, they organized the first festival in 1982. Forty-one years later, they are still celebrating and promoting the best of creole culture, traditional food and of course, The Best of Zydeco Music. | 12. bis 17. September 2023 Die Idee für das Projekt „Mundharmonika live“ wurde im Sommer 2000 geboren. Ein Dutzend „Mundi-Verrückter“ fand sich in Klingenthal – seit mehr als 150 Jahren Hochburg der Mundharmonika-Produktion – zusammen, um das Hosentascheninstrument verstärkt ins Licht der Öffentlichkeit zu rücken und einem möglichst breiten Publikum zugänglich zu machen. Seinen Höhepunkt erreicht das Festival „Mundharmonika live“ jährlich mit der »musikalisch-kulinarischen Live-Nacht«. Pendelbusse bringen die Gäste zu den einzelnen Veranstaltungslokalen. Öffentliche Vorspiele, Workshops und Führungen durch die Mundharmonika-Fabrik runden das Festivalprogramm ab. Zum Festival besuchen jährlich weit mehr als 1000 Gäste Events in über zehn Veranstaltungsorten. In der ältesten Mundharmonika-Fabrik der Welt, C. A. | 6-10 September 2023 International instrumental folk music festival „Griežynė“ is the oldest such genre event in the Eastern Baltic region. It was 1992 when the idea of two enthusiasts of instrumental folk music Algirdas Klova ir Arūnas Lunys came true and takes place every two years in Vilnius. The name of the festival was chosen purposefully. Griežynė is a dialect word for a fiddle, one of the main folk instruments in Lithuania and other countries. Vilnius gathers a great number of fiddlers from different sides of the world. The festival seeks to familiarise people with folk music performers, folk instruments, and traditional music of different countries. It purposes to demonstrate to the festival guests the authentic tradition of Lithuanian folk music performance. In 14 years the festival has already hosted musicians from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Finland, England, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Peru, Ireland, Wales, USA, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Japan, Iran, Turkey, China and many other parts of the world. „Griežynė“ is more than concerts.  Dimanches 3 septembre 2023 - 13h30 (Scène extérieure au musée de l’accordéon – 301, boulevard Taché Est) :Magnymontois d’origine, Alexandre B. Caron figure parmi les accordéonistes importants de la région. Son jeu solide et cadencé s’inspire des maîtres de la région, notamment celui de Marcel Messervier. Alors qu’il débute à peine l’apprentissage de l’accordéon, Alexandre se mérite quelques récompenses qui lui valent quelques passages télé, notamment aux « Découvertes de Monsieur Pointu » et à « La cour des grands », émission alors animée par Grégory Charles. En 2009, il se mérite le prix de la relève lors des Canadian Folk music awards. Depuis quelques années, il participe aux vidéos didactiques du Réseau Québec Folklore dans lequel il partage sa passion du répertoire traditionnel québécois. Sa carrière musicale a permis de faire rayonner notre musique sur les scènes du Québec de même qu’ailleurs au Canada et dans le monde. Fondateur du Carrefour mondial de l’accordéon, il propose une véritable tribune pour la musique traditionnelle du Québec qui s’affirme fièrement en côtoyant ces accordéonistes venus de partout dans un contexte d’ouverture sur le monde et de dialogue entre les cultures. Par diverses initiatives, il contribuera à conserver les savoirs traditionnels et à renforcer leur transmission, à diriger les projecteurs sur une relève forte et sur ces accordéonistes de tous les coins du Québec qui permettent au public de prendre la mesure de la vitalité, de la diversité et de la richesse créatrice de notre musique. | „Iontach" ist irisch und heißt „wunderbar / hervorragend" und bisweilen auch „eigenartig / merkwürdig". Heimische und internationale Pressestimmen beschreiben die konzertante Musik der deutsch-irischen Formation jedoch eindeutig im erst genannten Sinne. Die im Jahre 2003 gegründete Band besteht aus den drei renommierten Musikerpersönlichkeiten Siobhán Kennedy (IRL), Nick Wiseman-Ellis (GB) und Jens Kommnick (D), die in dieser Zusammensetzung seit 2016 gemeinsam musizieren. (Bevor Nick zum Ensemble stieß, gehörte Gründungsmitglied Angelika Berns [Gesang, Bodhrán, Piano, Whistle] zur Stammbesetzung.) Die abwechslungsreiche Mischung aus sensiblem, mehrstimmigem Harmoniegesang einerseits und feinen Arrangements schwungvoller Tanzmusik und lyrischer Melodien andererseits macht die Gruppe zu einer Ausnahmeerscheinung. Zudem gehört sie durch den großen Umfang ihres eingesetzten Instrumentariums (Flöten, Geigen, Akkordeon, Concertina, Gitarre, Bouzouki, Cello, Piano) und durch ihre sympathische und humorvolle Bühnenpräsentation zu den beliebtesten Formationen der Irisch-Traditionellen Musikszene. Erfolgreiche Konzertreisen führte das Trio bereits durch ganz Deutschland, sowie nach Frankreich, Niederlande, Luxemburg, Italien, Österreich und die Schweiz. Das größte deutsche Fachmagazin „Folker!" kürte IONTACHs CD-Produktion „The Half Gate" (2004) mit dem Prädikat „DIE BESONDERE" und nominierte sie damit zur „Folker-CD des Jahres". Andere euphorische Pressestimmen aus den USA (Dirty Linen), England (fRoots), und Irland („Irish Music Magazine", „Irish Times", „Hot Press") folgten auf dem Fuße.  Saturday 16th September 2023Johnny Óg Connolly, a renowned traditional musician and composer from the Connemara Gaeltacht, excels in accordion and melodeon. His debut solo album ‘Aisling Yoshua’ won Folk Album of the Year in 2011. Composing extensively, he draws inspiration from Irish language poetry and created two song cycles, including one with Liam Ó Maonlaí on vocals, based on Máirtín Ó Direáin’s poetry. Recently, he received a commission to write a music series based on the life of his father, the renowned melodeon player Johnny Connolly. The series titled ‘An Cosan Draíochta’ (The Enchanted Path) concluded a successful nationwide tour in late 2022. Currently, Johnny Óg is researching Conamara’s music. | “Sulle note della gioia: le feste tradizionali d’Abruzzo e l’organetto Ianni di Giulianova”. Il 23 e 24 settembre tornano le Giornate Europee del Patrimonio con i Musei civici di Giulianova. Sabato 23 e domenica 24 settembre, tornano le Giornate Europee del Patrimonio, la più estesa e partecipata manifestazione culturale d’Europa, che quest’anno concentreranno l’azione sulla valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale immateriale, declinato in Italia con lo slogan “Patrimonio InVita”. La scelta mira alla condivisione e all’indispensabile trasmissione alle generazioni future. Il weekend giuliese sarà scandito da due eventi che ripercorreranno un aspetto molto sentito del patrimonio immateriale d’Abruzzo, quello delle festività e della musica tradizionale eseguita dallo strumento principe: l’organetto. |

| Samedi 2 septembre 2023 - 20h – Veillée de danse (Pavillon communautaire, Espace citoyen – 48, avenue du Bassin Nord) : Le trifluvien Mario Veillette grandit au sein d’une famille d’accordéonistes. C’est auprès d’un grand accordéoniste de la région, Gilles Paré, qu’il va parfaire sa technique et approfondir son répertoire. Il fonde son premier orchestre à l’âge de 12 ans, faisant danser dans des soirées et des associations d’âge d’or trois fois par semaine comme accordéoniste, puis comme bassiste et chanteur. De 2000 à 2009, il sera l’accordéoniste attitré de la Cabane à Sucre Chez Dany à Trois-Rivières. Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne (melodeon, anglo concertina, vocals), George Sansome (guitar, vocals) and Lewis Wood (violin, vocals) have honed their skills touring the UK and Europe since 2009. They are much loved by audiences up and down the country, with bookings everywhere from Cambridge Folk Festival to Cecil Sharp House. The trio have been heralded for their lively performances and skilled delivery of traditional material, playing with verve, energy and their own inimitable style. | Vendredi 1er septembre 2023 / 20h – Concert d’ouverture (Salle Edwin-Bélanger, École secondaire Louis-Jacques-Casault – 141, boulevard Taché Est) : Né en 1979 en Argentine, Victor Villena commence l’étude du bandonéon à l’âge de 9 ans dans la banlieue de Buenos Aires. A 17 ans, il est élu « bandonéoniste révélation » par l’Académie Nationale du Tango de Buenos Aires. Il obtient le Prix du meilleur soliste au Concours national d’Argentine en 1997. En 1999, il quitte l’Argentine pour s’installer en France. Sa carrière se poursuit dans toute l’Europe. Il se produit ainsi en tant que soliste avec l’Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France, l’orchestre symphonique des Pays de la Loire, le Moritzburg Festival Orchestre (Allemagne), le Stockholm Jazz Orchestra (Suède), le Brussels Jazz Orchestra (Belgique). Son talent lui permet de se produire sur les scènes françaises les plus renommées : Salle Pleyel, Théâtre du Châtelet, Olympia de Paris, Salle Gaveau… et du monde : Hollywood Bowl (USA), Broadway 54(USA), The London Barbican, the London Queen’s Hall (UK), Tokyo Forum (Japon)… De 2003 a 2007, il fait partie de la tournée mondiale du Gotan Project, groupe mythique de musique électronique. Depuis 2013; il est le bandonéoniste officiel de la chanteuse et actrice Ute Lemper. Violoniste italo-française, musicienne passionnée, Sabrina Condello a un parcours couronné de succès qui lui permettra notamment de se produire en soliste avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo. En 2009, elle est admise à la Haute École de Musique de Genève. C’est dans cette même période, qu’elle découvre le tango. Ce sera pour elle une véritable révélation, et dès lors cette musique ne cessera de prendre de l’importance dans son développement artistique. C’est en 2019, que débute la collaboration artistique de ces deux artistes. | 30 years of activity will be celebrated with 30 concerts during 2023 and 2024. Didier Laloy’s work is lead by his hunger for new experiences, his will to surprise and get surprised ! Over the years he’s had a chance to collaborate with many talented artists from both belgian and international scenes. He has also devellopped a passion for his own « creative world » through four major personnel projects : S’tres, Didier Laloy Invite’S, Pôz,… His rich carreer has allowed him to try out quantity of different types of music such as world music, jazz, pop-rock or even theatre… without him ever prefering one to an other. He has defined his own style through his « freedom of creation », wich consists in following his personal needs and most of all, in bringing his audience to yet unknown places. Son style, vif et juste, en font un des musiciens à surveiller dans la relève en musique traditionnelle. Il enseigne depuis peu l’accordéon diatonique à l’École internationale de musique de Montmagny. The concert “will also be streamed live to the world on Live to Your Living Room, making this an incredibly exciting global event.” The album will feature “powerful, uplifting songs alongside beautiful instrumentals showcasing the band’s deep roots in traditional dance music.” The quartet members: Richard Arrowsmith (melodeons & vocals), Jess Arrowsmith (violin & vocals), James Fagan (vocals, bouzouki & guitar) and Nancy Kerr (vocals & violin). |
