| Diatonic News is wishing all their readers a peaceful easter and pleasant time, always surround by music. Also this year our easter wishes come accompanied by the Ukrainian handpainted and tradtional Easter egg image, known as a pysanka egg. Characterized by their unique and intricate designs, these have become popular worldwide. While today they are widely admired for aesthetic reasons, historically they were thought to be very powerful. According to the Ukrainian Museum, in ancient times, women and young girls would design pysanka eggs each spring. Using natural dyes wotj Geometric motifs as well as animal and plant elements were all common designs seen on pysanka eggs. Each color used in the design had a different symbolic meaning: red symbolized the sun, life, and joy; yellow represented wealth and fertility; green was a symbol of spring and plant life. |

| Diatonic Tango is a composition by Alessandro Gaudio and Salvatore Peace, arrangement for string orchestra by Renzo Ruggieri. The performance with the string orchestra of the Academy Pianistica Italiana was held on 30 December at the Giardini Naxos. Alessandro Gaudio is a teacher at Conservatorio di Musica Statale “P. I. Tchaikovsky” and President of the IDA - International Diatonic Alliance. Diatonic Tango è una composizione di Alessandro Gaudio e Salvatore Pace, arrangiamento per orchestra d'archi di Renzo Ruggieri. L'esecuzione con l'orchestra d'archi dell'Accademia Pianistica Italiana si è tenuta il 30 dicembre ai Giardini Naxos. Alessandro Gaudio è docente presso il Conservatorio di Musica Statale “P. I. | Il Jazz Accordion Festival amplia i confini territoriali: il concerto di chiusura si svolge quest’anno domenica 17 marzo alle 18.00 al teatro la Fenice di Osimo grazie alla collaborazione con il Comune di Osimo. Ingresso libero. Lo stiloso e collaudato duo Gianni Iorio & Pasquale Stafano propone un concerto adatto ad un ampio pubblico di cui è protagonista il bandoneon, strumento a mantice parente prossimo della fisarmonica. Gianni Iorio, musicista di estrazione fisarmonicista che si è specializzato negli ultimi anni sul bandoneon divenendone uno dei più autorevoli interpreti, effettua attraverso le sue composizioni una ricerca molto personale usando un linguaggio molto articolato che va ben al di là del ‘solo’ tango, accompagnato dall’estro di un arrangiatore e pianista di primo piano come Pasquale Stafano. Pianista, compositore e arrangiatore Pasquale Stafano ha inciso cinque album come leader per importanti etichette discografiche come Philology, Jazzhaus Records, Enja Records, Sony Classical. E’ ideatore e direttore artistico dello “Stornarella International Music Festival” che si tiene in estate a Stornarella, in provincia di Foggia e la sua composizione Milonguita è stata arrangiata ed inclusa nell’album Hora cero del celebre ensemble Die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philarmoniker. Gianni Iorio, classe 1972, è protagonista di una brillante attività concertistica come pianista e bandoneonista. Ha inciso per le etichette Real Sound, Philology, Dodici Lune, Jazzhaus, Universal, Rai Trade, Enja Records e Act ed ha suonato nei più prestigiosi teatri del mondo con il musicista “premio Oscar” Luis Bacalov, che del duo dice: “Gianni suona con una professionalità ed un rigore che fanno di lui uno dei migliori interpreti di bandoneon che abbia mai sentito. | Kärntens Volkmusikelite holte Stockerlplätze ab 107 Musiker aus Kärnten haben beim 14. Kärntner Volksmusikwettbewerb am 25.02.2024, der drei Tage lang im Schloss Krastowitz in Klagenfurt über die Bühne gegangen ist, mitgemacht. Es regnete Goldmedaillen für Ensembles und Solisten. Die 16 Preisträger erhalten auch eine CD-Aufnahme als Geschenk. Die Stimmung im Schloss Krastowitz in Klagenfurt war musikalisch ausgelassen. 107 Volksmusikanten im Alter von sieben bis 20 Jahren sind von Freitag bis Sonntag auf der Bühne gestanden. 40 Solisten an Steirischer, Harfe und Hackbrett und 24 Ensembles haben sich dem Wettstreit der Volksmusikelite im Land gestellt. „Fuxteiflsmusi“ der Musikschule Feldkirchen erspielten sich auch einen Stockerlplatz. (Bild: EVELYN HRONEK) Locker drauf los spielen „Ich bewundere, wie locker, unbekümmert die Kleinsten sind, wie sie munter auf der Bühne drauf los spielen“, sagt Wettbewerbs-Organisator Christian Brugger. | Friday 22 Mar 4pm — Sunday 24 Mar 4pm, 2024 The West Country Concertina Players will host at the Halsway Manor a concertina workshop weekend for intermediate / advanced level players of all systems. You do not need to be a member of WCCP to come the weekend is open to all. Though this is a popular weekend and priority will be given to WCCP members through an opportunity to book early. There will be time to relax in the comfort of Halsway Manor, with evening playing sessions in the bar, plus an informal tutor’s concert on the Saturday evening. There’s also the option to stay an extra night and book for Sunday supper, B&B, the perfect time to relax and unwind after a busy weekend of music and socialising. | The 2024 Che Bandoneon InternationalCompetition is open to bandoneon players of all nationalities and at least 18 years of age by August 1, 2024. All application materials must be submitted using the online application form. The preliminary round is held online. The Finals of the Competition will be held in Stowe, Vermont USA from August 6 – 19 as a part of the 2024 Stowe Tango Music Festival. The 2023 competition's first place winner is not eligible to compete. | The Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair, usually held at historic Market Square in San Antonio, Texas, every year, will change for this year, according to a video shared to social media by the organizers. The TMA Fan Fair is one of the largest events of its kind, attracting thousands of Tejano music fans and over 200 bands from across the U.S. and Mexico. The event is free and open to the public and features live music on multiple stages, food and beverage vendors, and merchandise booths. The TMA Fan Fair also serves as a platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their talent and connect with fans. Many Tejano music legends have performed at the Fan Fair over the years, such as Shelly Lares, Emilio Navaira, La Mafia, Jay Perez, and Elida Reyna. The organizers have not revealed the new location of the TMA Fan Fair yet, but they have announced that the band registration for 2024 will end on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. CT. Bands interested in performing at the fan fair can register online at tejanomusicawards.com. The Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair is presented by the Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA), a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote professional excellence; a better understanding and greater appreciation for Tejano music; and to provide a public forum for songwriters, performers and musicians in order to recognize their artistic efforts and achievements through the annual Tejano Music Awards and related events. You will learn to play simple melodies with your right hand, to accompany yourself with the left hand, how to hold your instrument and other basic knowledge and skills you need to play the harmonica. Bring your own instrument:– a harmonica in tuning C/F for the group from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM, or – a harmonica in tuning G/C for the group from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM. She also worked for many years at the musical instrument museum in Brussels for the educational service. She gives workshops at home and abroad. The workshop: Last summer was again full of beautiful, fresh and lovely music, of dancing and meetings, of discoveries and passion! It will take a while, but we will meet again in April in beautiful Berg en Dal, and I can share this music with you. During the workshop we practice some melodies from this summer repertoire, based on traditional music from Europe and the UK; waltz, jig, gavotte de l'Aven, an Irish ballad... We develop the music by delving deeper into rhythm, accents, decorations and variations. Accompanying these melodies is also discussed; we play variations on the bass side and we learn extended chord progressions on the melody side. We practice both harmonic and rhythmic accompaniment. The intention is that we can build up an arrangement in groups, or all together, to play together and possibly dance and sing to. Fun and enjoyment come first! We play the GC harmonica. The melodies are noted with notes and, if desired, with numbers. During the workshop we mainly use the ears. I send sound fragments in advance. We study together from Friday evening onwards. | Finnish bandoneón player and tango musician Ville HILTULA has developed an extensive international career over the years by performing widely all over the world, including Argentina, USA, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and many European countries such as Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Germany, Spain, England, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia & Bulgaria. Ville is the founding member of tango ensembles such as Ville Hiltula Tango Cuarteto, Locura Tanguera, Tangueros Polares, Ville Hiltula Quartet, NoEsTango, Tanguarda, El Orillero, and contemporary tango ensemble Perrito Caliente. He also played 10 years in an internationally renowned tango group Carel Kraayenhof y su Sexteto Canyengue in years 2005-2015, and recorded two albums with them, Tango Heroes in 2008 & Compassion in 2010. Pour ce nouveau répertoire, la musicienne s’amuse avec les références, de Ravel à Brassens, les convoquant comme des vestiges ou des objets trouvés. Une démarche qui fait écho à la manière créative dont Dave Douglas envisage chacun de ses orchestres – le trompettiste ayant lui-même traversé tous les gués de l’histoire du jazz, du bop à l’avant-garde, de Horace Silver à John Zorn.
