 “THE ACCORDION IN THE 19TH CENTURY"Gorka Hermosa says: This book is a study and analisys of the origin of the keyboard free reed instruments and their organologic and musical development in the 19th century. In the book, we present some new ideas about the history of these instruments and we broke some of the most widespreaded ideas about this subject written in the most important books about the history of the accordion: : In chapter I, we will analyze the antecedents of the accordion and will vindicate that the first known predecessor of the free reed instruments is not the tcheng. In chapter II, we will analyze the organologic evolution of the accordion and will question that it was invented by Demian in 1829. In chapter III we will describe the evolution of the accordion in the 19th c. music and will try to argue that current convertor accordions have more similarities to the concertina or the harmonium than to the diatonic accordions from the 19th c. Finally, in annexes I and II, we will present a list of Romantic works written for concertina and harmonium by the greatest composers of the 19th century that have been rarely played in the last century and that we try to rescue with the publication of this book.  As part of an International venture between New Zealand and Finland, a local craftsman in Finland has constructed the world's first accordions made from the prized native New Zealand 'Kauri' tree.The dream of Kevin Friedrich, born in Dargaville, New Zealand (near where the giant Kauri trees grow), and a regular visitor to Ikaalinen, Finland, the home to a rare accordion making school, where trainees are taught the art of constructing accordions in the traditional Finnish folk style, this project combines the rich and rare tradition of Finland's accordion making culture with the stunning timber of the New Zealand Kauri tree. Under the hands of master Finnish craftsman Aaro Luukinen, the dream of a Kauri instrument has now become a reality. Three magnificent instruments K1, K2 and K3, all to be officially named at a later date, have been crafted. The first of the instruments K1, will be housed at the Dargaville Museum, which already features extensive displays on the history of the Kauri trade in the Dargaville area. This instrument crafted from Kauri timber from Dargaville, will be used for performances in the region to showcase this unique and beautiful instrument, the world's first made from the Kauri timber. K2 will be housed in Ikaalinen, Finland and will be the showcase instrument of the craftsman and accordion making facility, while K3 will become my personal instrument for Kevin to keep in New York and will be used for personal performances. Each instrument while similar in design, is slightly unique, and profile the individual finishing touches of Aaro's design. In addition, each instrument has a unique grill pattern designed by Aaro’s wife, Henriikka. The three patterns which were later hand carved by Aaro are titled ‘Birth’, ‘Growth’ and ‘Departure’. The instruments were completed and officially unveiled on 30 January 2013 in Ikaalinen, Finland at an International Press Conference, with the debut performance scheduled for March 24th, 2013 in Dargaville, New Zealand at the 6th Annual Afternoon of Music with myself and my fellow musicians. Aaro Luukinen was born in Lapland in Northern Finland. His father Matti Luukinen had an accordion workshop and a small factory in the village Salla. The workshop specialised in diatonic accordions and was the only accordion manufacturer in Finland since the Kouvola factory stopped in 1995. Matti Luukinen worked for more than 30 years building accordions. Aaro grew up in this atmosphere of accordion building and got a lot of knowledge from his father. Both parents were professional with Aaro's mother making more than 500 sets of accordion bellows by herself. Aaro studied accordion building at the Ikaalinen Arts and Crafts School and graduated as an Artisan in 2003. He worked in his father's factory in 2006-2008 and since then, he has operated his own accordion workshop and now serves as a teacher of accordion making at the Ikaalinen College of Crafts and Design. | Im Februar fand das traditionelle Schellerlaufen in Nassereith statt. Etwa 6000-7000 Besucher machten sich trotz nicht allzu schönem Wetter auf den Weg dorthin um diesen alten Brauch miterleben zu dürfen. Zirka 450 Männer und Burschen haben daran teilgenommen. Frauen und Mädchen dürfen daran nicht teilnehmen. Hauptfigur ist der Bär und der Bärentreiber. Beim Kampf bezwingt der Bär, er verkörpert den Frühling, den Bärentreiber, er verkörpert den Winter. Neben Kehrer, Roller, Scheller, Sackner und Spritzer wurden auch 6 Fasnachtwägen gebaut. Einer davon verkörperte heuer die steirische Harmonika. Diese ist von der Fasnacht nicht wegzudenken. Francisco el Hombre is a legendary figure, said to have originated the musical genre of Vallenato in Colombia. His story is very unclear and has been told by word of mouth from generation to generation. [edit] The Story His full name is Francisco Antonio Moscote. Francisco El Hombre is rumored to have gone around town to town in Colombia spreading news through the art of song. Not only did he sing the news, but he did it to the rhythm of an accordion that he always played whilst singing. This is how the genre of Vallenato in Colombia came to be. The exact era of his appearances is not known but it is rumored to have started around the late 1870s and early 1880s. Another Myth There is also a myth in Colombia where he was involved in a musical contest with Satan "El Diablo" and beat him with the rhythm of accordion and his voice. This is how he received the nickname "El Hombre" (The Man), which is how most Colombians know him - Francisco El Hombre.   14th Vienna International Accordion Festival runs from 23 February to the 24th March 2013. The program of the event is available for download at: 2013WienThe packed program includes international and home-grown artists alike - and on 14 different stages, from jazz club Porgy & Bess to the Filmcasino. Mostly double concerts, which present two accordion bands in a single evening, are on the calendar from 23 February to 24 March. Around 40 concerts reflect the full stylistic range of the accordion between tradition and lots of innovation. International performers include: Norwegian Guro von Germeten with her Schwindelfrei Orchestra, Kimmo Pohjonen, Lars Karlsson with Øivind Farmen, Motion Trio, Denis Colin Trio, world music giant Bratsch from France, Blowzabella from the UK and Melingo from Argentina. The Austrian accordion scene is represented by the young talent Paul Schuberth, Maria Theres Stickler, Christian Bakanic and Walther Stojka. Well known hereabouts are Willi Resetarits & Stubenblues, the Vienna Tschuschenkapelle, Dobrek Bistro and, of course, the Austrian perennial accordion star Otto Lechner, who conducts the Zieharmonisches Orchestra at the opening gala. Theo Knopf, ein erfahrener Konzertinamusikant und Kenner dieses Instruments, betreut jeden Teilnehmer individuell. Leihinstrumente können zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Februar 1935 geboren und ist heute in Bayreuth wohnhaft. Die Konzertina zu spielen, lernte er bereits mit acht Jahren, angeregt durch seinen Vater, der auch schon das Instrument nach Ziffernschrift beherrschte. Erst viel später, als Theo Knopf bereits 47 Jahre alt war, nahm er in Pegnitz bei Fritz Pastyrik Unterricht, um nach dessen Lehrkonzept nun auch nach regulärer Notenschrift spielen zu lernen. Knopf spielt heute teilweise nach Ziffernnotation, teilweise nach Noten oder einfach nach Gehör und auswendig. In seinem Repertoire führt er über 80 verschiedene Tänze, ältere Schlager und Spielstücke von Andreas Hader, wie etwa der Ostergalopp "Ds Madla von dr Gmaa". Theo Knopf komponiert auch eigene Stücke, wie etwa die bekannt gewordene Degelmann-Polka oder diverse Ländler und Walzer. Er bevorzugt unter seinen Instrumenten die vierchörige Haustein-Konzertina (in Es) sowie eine vierchörige Birnstock-Konzertina (in C) mit Tonabnehmer, da er ab und zu auch im Freien aufspielt. Er musiziert zur eigenen Unterhaltung oder zur Unterhaltung im Freundeskreis, im Wirtshaus, bei Tanzveranstaltungen und bei privaten Festen. | Die Hummelkurse finden jedes Jahr im Frühjahr und im Herbst im Wiesbaden-Naurod statt. Für alle, die das Musizieren auf dem diatonischen Akkordeon in G/C–Stimmung erlernen oder verbessern wollen. Je nach Teilnehmerzahl werden Lerngruppen gebildet, die jeweils aus maximal 6 TeilnehmerInnen bestehen.  Yoshiya Watanabe, well known accordion researcher and collector, player and analyst, died from cancer on Sunday February 9th 2013, aged 60. He was one of an international band of collectors of old and antique accordions, and had a large collection of his own. He also had a great knowledge of anything to do with accordions, which he was always willing to share with others.Picture left in 1968. Brought up in Egypt, then Germany where he attended the International School in Hamburg, and later the International Christian University, Tokyo, where he graduated in biology and organic chemistry, Yoshiya Watanabe was fluent in both German and English. He translated the novel ‘Accordion Crimes’ into Japanese. Employed in the chemical industry with the Mitsui company, Yoshiya also lived in Brazil, where he made many contacts with accordionists. Yoshiya began learning the accordion in Hamburg in 1966, and played both button and piano accordion. A skilled and practical man, in 1985 Yoshiya designed and built what may have been the world’s first MIDI synthesizer accordion. This instrument had bellows sensors, and was exhibited at the International Science Expo ’85 in Tsukuba, Japan. Yoshiya Watanabe was also the author of two books about the accordion. Yoshiya Watanabe was very well liked and respected by all who came into contact with him. He is survived by a wife Kyoko, daughter Sakura and son Taira. |

 Akkordeon 22. bis 25. März 2013 Die Kurse gehen nun in die 8. Runde. Es gibt dabei Gelegenheit, auf dem traumhaften Berghof Akkordeon (Drehleier, Dudelsack, und Streich-instrumenten) zu Workshop 4 - Diatonisches Akkordeon mit Jan Budweis (G/C), (jedes Niveau, keine Anfänger) Einfache Tanzmelodien sind oft kurz und leben durch ständige Wiederholungen. Um sie beim Aufspielen zum Tanz oder beim Erarbeiten eines Konzertprogramms abwechslungsreich und spannend zu gestalten gibt es viele Möglichkeiten, die wir in diesem Kurs erlernen wollen: Z.B. rhythmische Gestaltungsvarianten der rechten und linken Hand, das Akkordspiel auf der Diskantseite und Phrasierungs- und Verzierungstechniken. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist das Erarbeiten von Variationen bis hin zu kleinen Improvisationen. Ziel des Kurses ist, dass die Teilnehmer mit den erlernten Fertigkeiten kreativ und spielerisch umgehen können, wobei sich jeder Einzelne entsprechend seiner individuellen Möglichkeiten in das Zusammenspiel integrieren kann.
