 Um der Mid EUROPE, einem der bedeutendsten Blas-musikfestivals weltweit, nach 15 Jahren auch andere Dimensionen zu erschließen, hatte deren langjähriger Leiter, Prof. Johann Mösenbichler (Bruckner-Uni Linz, links) die Idee, die Steirische Harmonika mit ins Boot zu nehmen. Er nahm mit dem HVÖ Kontakt auf und schon im ersten Info-Gespräch mit Präsident Werner Weibert (rechts) zeigte sich weitgehende Übereinstimmung über die Möglichkeiten der Einbindung dieses boomenden Volksinstruments in das jährlich stattfindende internationale Festival. Zumal die Qualitätsansprüche absolut auf gleichem Niveau angesiedelt sind.Vom 8. bis 10. Juli fand nun die erste MID HARMONIKA als Einleitung zur heurigen Mid EUROPE in Schladming statt. Der HVÖ-Fachvorstand Gottfried Hubmann hatte ein hochkarätiges Programm zusammengestellt, das leider nur von einer durchaus „überschaubaren Menge“ konsumiert wurde. Den Beginn machte Prof. Mag. Manfred Riedl vom Kärntner Landeskonservatorium mit einem Vortrag über das Thema „Die Steirische Harmonika im Wandel der Zeit, gestern-heute-morgen“, worin von den Ursprüngen 1829 bis heute ein großer Bogen über die Entwicklung des Instruments in all seinen Facetten gezogen wurde. Vor allem die letzten 10 Jahre waren sehr ausführlich angesprochen und analysiert, beginnend mit der technischen Seite der Steirischen über Noten- und Literatur-Entwicklung bis zu den Interpreten. Die angebotenen HVÖ-Workshops: 1. „Begeistere und gewinne – Steirische trifft Blasmusik“ von Gerald Ranacher und Christopher Haritzer. Das Thema war genau auf diesen Rahmen abgestimmt und wurde durch beiderseitiges hohes Beherrschen diverser Klarinetten und der Steirischen bestens demonstriert. 2. Oberkrainer-Workshop mit Loui Herinx, wobei die Körperhaltung, Arm-Handstellung, Balgbehandlung und interpretatorische Besonderheiten auf der Steirischen vorgeführt wurden. Den Abschluss bildete eine kurze Demonstration der Limex-Midi-Technologie. 3. Moderne Stilistik, Walking Bass für Boogie, Jazzstandards oder Swing sowie Erich-Moser und seine Stücke behandelte Gottfried Hubmann in seinem Vortrag, den er selbst musikalisch sehr anschaulich und professionell untermalte. 4. Prof. Mag. Johann Murg nahm sich unter dem Titel Buchstabensalat intensiv der verschiedenen bisher aufgetretenen Notationen an. Zwei Tage lang wurde auf diversen Bühnen und Plätzen in Schladming und Haus im Ennstal vor Publikum von bekannten jungen Spielern und Formationen musiziert, um auf die Mid Harmonika aufmerksam zu machen und das Instrument zu präsentieren. Am Montagabend gab es auch „Wirtshausmusizieren“, was von den anwesenden Touristen sehr goutiert wurde, spielten doch durchwegs Preisträger der letzten österreichischen Wettbewerbe bzw. der Harmonika-WM auf: Die Bracher-Buam (oben Mitte), die Familienmusiken Schneeberger (oben links) und Emmersdorfer, Die jungen Putzenberger, Michael Bernhard, Sebastian Thier (oben rechts), Loui Herinx und Gottfried Hubmann selbst. Ebenso traten Florian und sein Sohn Daniel Michlbauer auf. Moderiert wurden diese Open-Air-Darbietungen von Prof. Mösenbichler oder Werner Weibert. Gerald Ranacher und Christopher Haritzer präsentierten am Montagabend ihr hervorragendes Musiktheater „schau ma mol“. Die bekannten Firmen Müller Harmonika, Strasser, Alpengold-Harmonikas, Limex, Novak, Michlbauer und das erst kurz bestehende Label Landerer aus Bayern waren als Aussteller vertreten. Erstaunt und begeistert zugleich reagierte das honorige Publikum am Dienstagabend im Mid-Europe-Eröffnungskonzert auf die Darbietung von Gottfried Hubmann, der zusammen mit der Vorarlberger Militärmusik seine „Harmonika-Fantasie“ spielte (unten links) und dafür langanhaltenden Beifall genießen konnte. Auch der steirische LH-Stv. Hermann Schützenhöfer (unten rechts) war erstaunt, wie sich die Steirische Harmonika entwickelt hat und welche spielerischen Möglichkeiten heute vorhanden sind. In der Eröffnungsrede betonte Bgm. Jürgen Winter (unten Mitte) auch den Beitrag des HVÖ und seiner Proponenten als Einleitung des schon traditionellen Festivals und ließ in einem persönlichen Gespräch mit Präsident Weibert durchblicken, dass die Gemeinde Schladming einer Weiterführung dieser heuer begonnenen erfreulichen Zusammenarbeit durchaus positiv gegenüber steht. Um die Effizienz der MID HARMONIKA auf das gewünschte Niveau zu bringen, müsste man wohl noch einige Modifizierungen bzw. andere Platzierungen vornehmen, um eine größere Attraktivität für das Publikum bieten zu können. Mehr Interessenten für diese neue Veranstaltung zu begeistern, muss ein großer Ansporn für die nahe Zukunft sein. | The 23rd annual multi-cultural, multi-generational, nonprofit Cotati Accordion Festival will be taking place this August 17th & 18th in La Plaza Park in downtown Cotati, Ca.. The event, which donated $19,250.00 to local youth groups following the 2012 festival, will be celebrating "Viva L'Italia" with internationally acclaimed Italian accordionists Renzo Ruggieri, Vincenzo Abbraciante, and Pietro Adragna, all making the long trip from Italy to take the stage in Cotati. The festival will also include 20 accordion acts, including zydeco, klezmer, polka, tango, Latino, rock and much more, along with the polka tent, the jam tent the zydeco dance party, food vendors, arts and crafts, beer and wine. | Als ein Publikumsmagnet hat sich das Internationale Harmonikafestival in der Anholter Schweiz in den vergangenen Jahren erwiesen. Am Samstag, 13. August 2013, gibt’s im Biotopwildpark wieder die Melange aus Flora, Fauna und zünftigen Klängen Die schöne Kulisse des nachgebauten Vierwaldstätter Sees in der Anholter Schweiz mit einem historischen Musikpavillon bilden eine herrliche Kulisse für das Harmonikafestival und sorgen für eine einzigartige Atmosphäre. So hoffen die Veranstalter auf gutes Wetter, denn dann dürften wieder weit mehr als 1000 Besucher den Park bevölkern. Der Musiktag wird gemeinsam von der Gruppe De Spölluu aus dem niederländischen Dinxperlo, den Original Surkse Wielbachburen vom Heimatverein Suderwick sowie vom Biotopwildpark organisiert Zwölf Gruppen auf dem PodiumWährend auf dem Podium ab 11 Uhr im Halbstundentakt insgesamt zwölf Gruppen die unterschiedlichsten Lieder und Weisen spielen werden, können sich einzelne Trecksackspieler im Park verteilt mit Gleichgesinnten zusammenfinden und gemeinsam spielen. Die Besucher des Biotopwildparks werden nicht nur Volkslieder, sondern auch alte Schlager hören können. Gegen 17 Uhr steht das Finale auf dem Programm, bei dem alle anwesenden Trecksackspieler mitmachen dürfen.Harmonikas werden im Grenzgebiet auch Trecksack genannt. In früheren Zeiten erfreute sich das Instrument bei der Hausmusik größter Beliebtheit. Eine Zeitlang geriet es allerdings etwas in Vergessenheit. Doch mittlerweile interessieren sich wieder mehr Musikfreunde für das Instrument. Das war vor einigen Jahren auch Anlass für die Volkshochschule Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg, Trecksackkurse anzubieten. Aus Teilnehmern bildete sich mittlerweile der Harmonikkreis, der am Samstag sein Können ab 16 Uhr auf der Bühne zeigt.Eine ähnliche Wiedergeburt des Trecksacks ist in der jüngeren Vergangenheit auch in den Niederlanden zu verzeichnen, wobei es dort besonders im Achterhoek noch zahlreiche Gruppen gibt und in vielen Orten so genannte Harmonikatage stattfinden. Das Festival in der Anholter Schweiz gilt allerdings auf deutscher Seite in der Region als einmalig.Eine Harmonika wird leicht mit einem Akkordeon verwechselt. Es ist aber ein ganz anderes Instrument mit einem eigenen Klang. Beim Drücken und Ziehen des Luftbalges werden bei den einzelnen Knöpfen des Instrumentes unterschiedliche Töne erzeugt, ähnlich wie beim Saugen und Blasen an der Mundharmonika, die, wie es der Name schon sagt, auch zu den Harmonikas zählt. Tra i pochissimi seminari internazionali interamente dedicati alla fisarmonica diatonica, alla sua tecnica ed al suo repertorio, la masterclass rappresenta un momento didattico fondamentale per coloro che vogliono scoprire a fondo e mettere in pratica le potenzialità musicali ed espressive di questo strumento, la fisarmonica diatonica a 8 bassi. Il contesto storico e geografico della masterclass permetteranno inoltre ai corsisti di alternare lo studio a momenti di relax. Città d’arte come Amelia, Orvieto, Narni, Todi, consentiranno a chi lo desidera di ritagliarsi spazi di approfondimento culturale ed enogastronomico. Obiettivi e piano delle attività della Masterclass La masterclass affronterà tecniche e repertori differenti ma tutti accomunati dall’obiettivo di approfondire le possibilità esecutive ed espressive dello strumento. Per questo, l’insegnamento si rivolge sia a suonatori dell’area tradizionale, sia a quanti usano l’organetto come strumento di composizione originale. Durante il seminario saranno presentati esercizi propedeutici allo sviluppo delle seguenti tecniche: la corretta postura, l'interpretazione esecutiva del brano musicale, i metodi per suonare in modo creativo, elementi di improvvisazione, uso degli abbellimenti, la polifonia e il controcanto alla mano destra, tecniche e procedimenti di scomposizione ritmica, gli errori più comuni da evitare, l'uso ritmico armonico dei bassi, l’accompagnamento alla mano destra, l’affinamento del timbro, l’uso del mantice e della valvola di sfiato, la dinamica e l'espressività del suono. Didattica: saranno affrontati brani e materiali didattici provenienti da diverse tradizioni musicali (Suditalia, Norditalia, Francia, Irlanda, Paesi Baschi, Paesi Scandinavi, Klezmer, jazz, pop). Il corso prevede anche una parte personalizzata sul profilo di ogni singolo corsista per incominciare a costruire assieme a lui un repertorio il più possibile vicino non solo ai suoi interessi musicali, ma anche al suo grado di abilità. Per partecipare alla masterclass è necessario essere in possesso di un organetto in SOL DO con almeno due file e otto bassi. E’ inoltre consigliato l'uso del registratore e del metronomo per agevolare fasi di lavoro individuale nell'arco dei tre giorni. Non è necessario saper leggere la musica. | 24th Annual - Yellow Pine Music & Harmonica Festival Aug. 2, 3, & 4, 2013 The village of Yellow Pine is high in the Idaho mountains (alt. 4,765 ft), 150 miles north of Boise, surrounded by national forests… and is known as the “Gateway to the Central Idaho Wilderness Area.” You’ll see critters, dirt streets, a real live “little red schoolhouse (fondly known as The University of Yellow Pine), a wooded RV park, rustic cabins and lovingly tended homes, a country store, an old hotel, two eateries/drinkeries, and the Community Hall and Fire Hall.   The 2013 All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil, organized by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE), takes place at several venues in the city of Derry, Northern Ireland, from August 11th to 18th. This year’s festival will be the first to be held in the UK.The Fleadh Cheoil is a huge competitive festival of Irish music, song and dance, with approximately 10,000 competitors and performers, including sections involving large numbers of accordionists, melodeon, concertina and harmonica players, as well as many ceili bands, accordion and marching bands. There are many guest artists performing in concerts or at dances during the festival, including accordion-featured acts such as Beoga, Dervish, Neusa, Perfect Friction, Reel It In, accordionists Damien Mullane and Dermot Byrne, and the BBC award winning duo Brendan Power (harmonica) and Tim Edey (guitar/melodeon). Note that this accordion is diatonic: basically each button has two tones, and the tone played depends on whether you pull or push the bellows! Weird at first, but really simple once you memorize the system. This accordion was hand-made by a Finnish accordion artesan." |

 Photos above: pictures of accordion in the famous Puhoi Hotel and a feature article in New Zealands largest newspaper. Lower is a book by local author Diane Krippner.150 years ago a boatload of settlers from Bohemia who had spent 4 months without making landfall were dropped off at midnight (because of the tides) at what has become the settlement of Puhoi. They had nothing, most importantly no food, and the local Maoris took pity on them and helped them through the winter until they could grow food. The hard working immigrants cleared the land of scrub and huge kauri trees and created gardens and pasture, built the church, school house, library and museum, which all still stand today. Significantly they bought their music with them and accordion was a mainstay of this. The local pub was famous for its music bands which all included accordionists. A display of the early instruments resides in a kauri display case at the Dargaville museum. The celebrations started on Friday evening at the Pub and continued at the church the next morning. Many people dressed in period costume. On Sunday at the Puhoi Market well known accordionist Heather Gladstone (picture below) and Roger Buckton (dudlesac), who had come from Christchurch to perform as ‘Folkworks’ from 9am to 11am. This was followed by the Ohaupo Bohemian Band from 11am, who had two accordionists playing also. On sale were books of the areas also featuring the accordion music as well as a CD of the band from the pub with its accordionists. |
