1. HARMONIKA-AWARD 2012 in Österreichby Werner Weibert |
| Preisverleihung an verdiente Harmonikaspieler, Volksmusikgruppen und Musikpädagogen Gottfried Hubmann, H.V.Ö.-Fachvorstand und Musikschullehrer an der Musikschule Mautern/Liesingtal sowie Mag. Johann Murg von der Franz-Schubert Musikschule und Musikuniversität Graz – beide langjährige Harmonikasolisten und Musikschullehrer – überlegten, wie man erfolgreiche Harmonikaspieler, Volksmusikgruppen und Harmonikapädagogen besonders würdigen könnte. Dadurch würde man dem Nachwuchs in diesem Bereich noch mehr Ansporn geben, die Volksmusik zu pflegen. Andererseits würde man auch Pädagogen und Volksmusikgruppen ermutigen, sich noch mehr wie bisher mit Volkskultur zu beschäftigen. Die Idee, den 1. Harmonika AWARD für dieses Bemühen zu vergeben, war geboren. Die dazugehörige Harmonika Award Urkunde mit Landeswappen, wird über die Volkskultur Steiermark von LH-Stv. Hermann Schützenhöfer gestaltet. Dafür zuständig ist Frau Dr. Monika Primas, Geschäftsführerin des Steirischen Volksliedwerkes. Die erste Sitzung des Gremiums fand am 25. Jänner 2012 im Steirischen Volksliedwerk in Graz statt. Das Gremium besteht aus: Fachvorstand BA Gottfried Hubmann, Mag. Johann Murg, Prof. Mag. Helmut Koini und FR Prof. Siegfried Greimler. Ihnen zur Seite werden von allen Regionen der Ober-, Süd-, West- und Oststeiermark Fachbeiräte fun-gieren, die eine beratende Funktion haben und Vorschläge einbringen sollen. Wer für diesen Preis nominiert wird, bestimmt allein das Gremium. Eine überregionale Funktion als Berater haben Dr. Monika Primas und ihr Stellvertreter Mag. Herbert Krienzer. Der Harmonika AWARD wird im Zweijahresrhythmus vom Harmonika-verband Österreichs (HVÖ) und der Volkskultur Steiermark bei einem ORF Sänger- und Musikantentreffen oder bei einem Volksmusikwettbewerb an verdiente Personen vergeben. Die Vergabekriterien für den Preis umfassen musikalische, technische, künstlerische, pädagogische, forscherische und gesellschaftliche Aspekte. Es müssen nicht alle Kriterien erfüllt sein. Kriterien für den Jugendpreis: • Außergewöhnliche Leistungen am Instrument: (Preise bei Harmonika- oder Volksmusikwettbewerben) • Musikalische Ausbildung: (Abschlussprüfung an einer Musikschule, Konservatorium oder Universität) • Besondere Leistungen im künstlerischen Bereich: (Stilistik, musikantisches Spiel, eigene Tonsprache, neue kreative Wege in der Harmonikamusik, Eigenkompositionen etc.) • Besondere Leistungen für die Gesellschaft und Gemeinschaft: (Singen und Musizieren in Gesellschaft, gelebte Alltags- und Feierkultur, Integration ins Dorfleben bzw. Leben der Region) Kriterien für den Erwachsenenpreis: • Herausragende Leistungen in Pädagogik und Didaktik: (Schulwerke, Spielhefte, Methodik, Einführung der SchülerInnen in die Praxis und Integration ins Dorfleben, Sänger- und Volksmusikstammtische, Schülerwettbewerbe) • Erworbene Auszeichnungen / Besondere Leistungen im künstlerischen Bereich: (Stilistik, musikantisches Spiel, eigene Tonsprache, neue kreative Wege in der Harmonikamusik, Eigenkompositionen etc.) • Besondere Leistungen für Gesellschaft und Gemeinschaft: (Singen und Musizieren in Gesellschaft, gelebte Alltags- und Feierkultur, Integration ins Dorfleben bzw. Leben der Region) • Besondere Leistungen für die Volksmusikforschung und Dokumentation Dieser neu kreierte Preis soll ausschließlich an Harmonikasolisten, Volksmusikgruppen und verdiente Musikpädagogen vergeben werden. Harmonika AWARD Kategorien: Award – Harmonikaspieler - Volksmusik Award – Harmonikasolist – Neue kreative Harmonikamusik - Weltmusik Award – Ehrenpreis für das Lebenswerk (z. B. verdiente Musikpädagogen oder Personen die sich über Jahrzehnte mit Volksmusik beschäftigen: Feldforschung, alte Musikstücke aufgezeichnet etc.) Die Steirische Harmonika ist in der Steiermark bzw. in ganz Österreich ein wichtiger Kulturträger und Wirtschaftszweig. Es wurden in allen Bundesländern (HVÖ Musikbeiräte) die Zahlen der Harmonika-schülerInnen in den Musikschulen aufgelistet. Auch alle Harmonika- und Volksmusikwettbewerbe wurden von allen Bundesländern genau erhoben. Mit einigen Awards ausgezeichnet wird Zydeco Annie + Swamp Cats als einer der besten europäischen Zydeco und Cajunbands in Europa gehandelt. Mit Ihrem aktuellen Konzertprogramm „Mehr als ein Konzert – eine musikalische Reise durch Louisiana“ wurde die Band erneut eingeladen bei einer TV Produktion mitzuarbeiten.  MORE THAN just a MUSEUM - Helmi Strahl HarringtonA World of Accordions, displays about 1,700 accordions treasures and chronicles the world history of the instrument. Music scholars from as far away as Austria have come to use the museum's archives. Some of the world's finest accordionists have performed in the Harrington Art Center's 1,000-seat concert hall. The building also houses the nation's only technical college program for accordion and concertina repair. Helmi Harrington's mother made a living by playing, repairing and teaching others how to play the accordion. Mother and daughter moved to the U.S. from Germany, shortly after World War II. Helmi, who has a doctorate in musicology, describes the accordion as both a humble and exceedingly complex instrument. "She is a living encyclopedia on the instrument," said travel writer Nancy Baren Miller of Akron, Ohio. In 2005 she was award with the prestigious GEMmy AWARD! | Texas Folklife is pleased to announce the names of the eight young squeezeboxers who will advance to the semifinal stage of the sixth annual Big Squeeze accordion contest: Peter Anzaldua, 15, of Brownsville; Candice Cerda, 17, of San Benito; Omar Garza, 17, of Mission; Luis Gonzales, 16, of Grand Prairie; Zeth Lara, 12, of San Benito; Juan Longoria III, 11, of Brownsville (son of 2007 champion!); Michael Ramos, 16, of Dallas; Isaiah Tellez, 13, of Pasadena. The Big Squeeze 2012 semifinals for up-and-coming musicians will be held in Austin at The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum on Saturday, April 28. Emceeing this year’s semifinals contest will be Joe Nick Patoski, iconic Texas author and Texas Folklife’s emcee for the annual Accordion Kings & Queens Festival. Each semifinalist will play two songs and the judges will choose up to four finalists afterward. | Internationales Akkordeon Festival 11/4/2012 – 6/5/2012 Internationales Akkordeon Festival Bereits zum vierten Mal lädt der Niederländer Servais Haanen Musiker aus unterschiedlichsten Ländern ein, die kulturelle Vielfalt auf einen Nenner zu bringen: das Akkordeon. Die Akkordeonale sprengt dabei alle einschlägigen Klischees des Instruments von gemütlicher volkstümelnder Biederkeit. Hier bekommt man das Akkordeon mit seinem prallen musikalischen Reichtum zu hören: von traditionell bis zeitgenössisch, folkloristisch, virtuos, temperamentvoll, und höchst eigenwillig. Dieses Jahr erwartet das Publikum ein buntes Gemisch aus Tango Argentino, Balkan-Gypsy, steirischem Jazz, Scottish Folk gemixt mit Haanens Klangästhetik und angereichert mit Geige und Posaune. So verschieden, wie die Instrumente (chromatische Pianoakkordeons, diatonische Ziehharmonikas, Bandoneon), so unterschiedlich sind auch die Herangehensweisen und Stile der Musiker: Der eine ist hoch studiert mit klassischer Ausbildung, der andere kann vielleicht keinen Noten lesen, hat aber das Instrument von frühester Kindheit an ganz selbstverständlich innerhalb seiner Kultur erlernt. So entsteht ein spannendes Nebeneinander auf der Bühne. Doch versteht sich die Akkordeonale nicht nur als Vorstellungsplattform landestypischer Musikstile. Mit frischem globalen Wind aus fünf Akkordeonbälgen entsteht auch etwas Neues: In den Ensemblestücken vermischen sich die Kulturen und hinterlassen den Geschmack eines ganz besonders intensiven Ereignisses. Servais Haanen rundet mit trockenem Witz und Sachverstand, Anekdoten über die Musiker und allerlei Wissenswertem über die Instrumente und Stile das Programm ab.  The Monument to Tango is a steel structure with creases resembling a “Bandoneon” (tango’s most typical instrument similar to an accordion ). It is located at the small piazza on the corner of A. Villaflor with Av. de los Italianos in Puerto Madero. Built by artists Alejandro Coria & Estela Treviño, made of stainless steel, 3,5 Mts. high and a weight of two tons. | The Baillies Mills Accordion Band perform in concert with the local Harmony Ladies Choir on April 14th, at the Island Hall, Lisburn, Northern Ireland. The local choir will be joined by German Choir FrauenTerz from Ladenburg, Germany. The Baillies Mills Accordion Band, from Cargycroy, Lisburn, County Antrim, was founded in June 1939 to provide music for a fete. The band was formed by four local brothers named Campbell, aided by the local families of Patterson, Hilland, Pettigrew and Mackin, each of whom had two members each in the band. By 1977 band funds were so low that a meeting was called to discuss the seriousness of the situation, and it was agreed that a concert should be planned, to be held in Carryduff Unionist Hall in February, 1978. This concert was so successful that it continues annually to the present day, now held in Ballynahinch Leisure Centre every November. To celebrate its 60th birthday in 1999 the Baillies Mills Band played at the Belfast Waterfront before a capacity audience, with several supporting artists. They returned again to the Waterfront to celebrate 70 years in existence, in 2009. Since 1978 the Band has made 5 albums and a DVD which recorded the Band's visit to Bergen, Norway, in 2010. Other visits include 4 trips to Scotland, and shorter tours for weekends to Fermanagh, and several locations in Donegal. In November, 9th to 11th, the Baillies Mills Accordion Band will visit London, and will perform in The Lord Mayor’s Show. Information: www.bailliesmills.com |

 Grammy Winners Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox present Accordion Masters and Maniacs from around the world at Squeezebox Mania V on Saturday April 21st. This year's all day, cross-genre accordion festival will take place at Jovitas, 1619 South 1st Street, Austin, TX 78704. Patio stage runs from 5-8 pm, featuring Johnny Degollado y su Conjunto, Shawn Nelson and the Ramblers, the University of Texas Conjunto, plus many more of Austin's top squeezebox players. The 8 pm indoor show will feature Texas Accordion Kings, Santiago Jimenez Jr. & Chris Rybak, Debra Peters, Charles Thibodeaux, plus special performances by Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox.  Viele Steirische Harmonikaspieler aus Italien,Südtirol und Slowenien musizierten in Portoroz (rechts die Sieger der einzelnen Kategorien mit der Jury) Auch wenn nicht alle Teilnehmer beim 1. Harmonika Grand Prix vor Lampenfieber gefeit waren, boten sie den Zuhörern einen niveauvollen und spannenden musikalischen Wettbewerb. Unter dem Juryvorsitz von HVÖ- Fachvorstand Gottfried Hubmann, Joze Burnik, Denis Novato, Darko Bradassi und Stane Knific traten am 4.2.2012 viele junge Harmonikaspieler zwischen 8 und 19 Jahren aus Südtirol, Slowenien und Italien in drei Kategorien zu einem friedlichen Wettstreit gegeneinander an. Die vielen Zuschauer im Saal machten sich durch Zwischenapplaus immer wieder bemerkbar. Dass jeder gerne gewinnen möchte ist klar, aber bei diesem Wettbe-werb hatte man das Gefühl, dass wirklich die besten SpielerInnen nach Portoroz gekommen sind, um am Bewerb teilzunehmen. Der Harmonika Grand Prix soll ein jährlicher Treffpunkt für VolksmusikantInnen aus dem gesamten Alpenraum werden und repräsentiert nicht nur das musikalische Kulturgut, sondern ist darüber hinaus auch ein Spiegelbild der vielfältigen Trachten aus den einzelnen Ländern. Einen Tag lang war das Hotel Portoroz ein einziges klingendes Haus. Es gab keine Popstars, die ein sattes Salär für ihre überlauten Darbietungen kassierten, sondern junge Menschen, die aus Freude an der Volksmusik auftraten. Und das nicht nur in den Sälen, wo der Wettbewerb stattfand, sondern im ganzen Haus. Das Niveau der Meisterschaft wurde als sehr hoch eingeschätzt. Neben der Technik und Melodieführung der rechten Hand wurde u. a. auch Ersteindruck, Schwierigkeitsgrad, Artikulation, Tempowahl, Balgtechnik, Rhythmus, Dynamik und die Anzahl der unterlaufenen Fehler gewertet. Dieser erstmals durchgeführte Wettbewerb war einer jener, die durch ihre Seriosität auffallen und sich von anderen Wald- und Wiesenwettbewerben angenehm abgrenzen, wo sich dann einer von zwei Kandidaten (!) mit einem „großen“ Titel schmücken darf. Daher wird der Slowenien-Grand Prix auch seinen Weg machen und bald einen Fixplatz im Veranstaltungskalender einnehmen. Das stellt ihn durchaus in die Nähe des jedes zweite Jahr durchgeführten Internationalen Wettbewerbes des HVÖ (Harmonika-WM), der zu den international und von der Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (C.I.A.) anerkannten Konkurrenzen gehört.  Nightcafé/Jam-Session am Freitag, 27.04, Samstag, 28.04., Sonntag, 29.04., Montag, 30.04. und auch Freitag, 04.05. und Samstag, 06.05.2012.Die Idee des Nightcafé/Jam-Session, das/die dieses Jahr wieder im Foyer der Waldhalle in stattfindet, entstand aus dem Wunsch vieler Musiker, von denen die meisten zu aufgekratzt sind, um gleich nach dem Gig ins Bett zu gehen, und vielen BesucherInnen, die nach dem Hauptkonzert noch den Abend entsprechend ausklingen lassen wollen. Und allzu gern steigen die Musiker aus dem Tagesprogramm der anderen Konzerte in den Gig ihrer Kollegen von der Hausband mit ein und jammen, was das Zeug hält. Leiter der Hausband am ersten Wochendene ist HELT ONCALE, Leader verschiedener, beim Festival immer erfolgreicher Bands unter Mithilfe des nicht minder renommierten YANNICK MONOT und einigen Kollegen, die an vier Abenden heiße Sessions mit all den Festival-Größen spielen werden. Let the good times roll... Selbstverständlich wird die Session bewirtet. Der Eintritt ist frei für diejenigen, die eine Eintrittskarte von einem anderen Festivalkonzert des Tages vorweisen können, alle anderen zahlen € 10.-. Einlass in’s Foyer ist, um allen die gleiche Chance auf einen Platz zu geben, grundsätzlich erst nach Beendigung des Hallenkonzertes (ca. 23 Uhr). | The 7-piece ladies band Kaapse Affodille Dames Boereorkes’ is a unique group of musicians that won the ‘Sandra Mynhardt’ trophy for the best performance in the woman’s division at the National ‘Boeremusiekgilde’ (folk music) Competition in 2009. Since then they have been conquering the South African folk music scene with their energetic performances and unique style. The have played at some of the largest and most prestigious festivals in South Africa such as: ABSA KKNK, INNIBOS, ‘Woord’ Festival, ‘Kreef’ Festival, Worcester Festival, Harvest of Joy, Hazenvlakte Rock Festival and many other events. Furthermore, their music is broadcasted on various radio stations on a very regular basis throughout South Africa and Namibia. Iriarte 2290 • Buenos Aires, Argentina 1295 Alejo Caramés – Guitarra y arreglos Nicanor Suàrez – contrabajo Norberto Vogel – bandonéon y arreglos Formado a comienzos de 1997, Funyi Tango Trío es un trío instrumental integrado por Alejo Caramés en guitarra y arreglos, Nicanor Suárez en contrabajo y Norberto Vogel en bandoneón y arreglos, rescatando una formación característica del Tango, ejecutado con la calidez que brindan estos instrumentos acústicos. Su vasto repertorio consta de obras clásicas de grandes compositores del tango como Troilo, Filiberto, Bardi, De Caro, Gardel, entre otros. Estas obras, en versiones sobriamente interpretadas, reflejan un rico desarrollo armónico y rescatan el fraseo característico de esta típica formación tanguera. Entre sus presentaciones en vivo cabe mencionar la participación en el ciclo “La Joven Guardia del Tango 1998” (Biblioteca Nacional), la banda sonora (ejecutada en vivo y luego registrada en CD) de la obra teatral “El Angel: Tango y Bar” (Teatro Colonial), recitales en la radio FM de la Ciudad (actual 2x4), Solo Tango TV, Salón Dorado (Casa de la Cultura), Confitería Ideal, Plaza Dorrego (San Telmo), Esquina Homero Manzi, C.C. Torcuato Tasso, Café Tortoni, Academia Nacional del Tango, como así también en fiestas privadas y eventos acompañando a numerosos cantantes de reconocida trayectoria (Raúl Lavié, Alba Solís, Alberto Podestá, etc.) y parejas de bailarines. El trío ha realizado hasta el momento cinco giras internacionales en las cuales recorrieron países como Reino Unido, Alemania, Suiza, Austria, Holanda, Italia y Nueva Zelanda (como invitados especiales en el IV y V Festival Internacional de Tango de ese país, auspiciado por Aerolíneas Argentinas). Cuenta con una producción en CD editado por el sello RGS que se titula “Tangos para Buenos Aires”, y que lleva un prólogo del Maestro Aníbal Arias. Actualmente se encuentra abocado a la presentación en vivo de lo que será su próximo material discográfico, que además de contener obras clásicas también incluirá composiciones originales del trio. Son parcours est ensuite marqué par ses recherches sur la forme et la modalité. Il est aussi l'un des premiers improvisateurs sur cet instrument. | For ten years now, TREF has been an engine of transgressing musical research in Folk Music. These ambassadors of virtuosity have already seen a great part of the world. Concerning folk music, they played with all the great musicians of their time. In Belgium they found their way to all big stages, from Nekkanacht in Antwerp to the Montreux Jazz Festival, while passing Francofolies in Spa, the festivals of Saint-Chartier (F) and Dranouter,... In 2002 the group received the Klara Music Price. These 4 passionate musicians fill their dialogue with traditional rythms, Jazzy harmonies, touching melodies and rocking grooves. In short, TREF is considered as a unique music genre, accompanied by a distinguished amount of Belgian humor on stage. TREF proudly presents its third album 'DAMPF', full of steaming music which continuously pursues its current course: three accordions and a lot of percussion in search of the limits of their possibilities and joined action. | Am Red Bull Ring in Spielberg ist Hubert von Goisern im Dezember mit Edelmetall ausgezeichnet worden: Für seine aktuellen Tonträger gab es zweimal Gold und einmal Platin. Das neue Jahr 2012 brachte außerdem Platin für die Single und Doppelplatin für das Album. Das Album Entwederundoder ist seit dreiundzwanzig Wochen in den Charts, davon sechs Wochen auf Platz 2, die Singleauskoppelung Brenna tuats guat ist seit einundzwanzig Wochen in den Charts, davon fünf Wochen auf Platz 1. Ganz oben in den Charts! Hubert von Goiserns neue Single Brenna tuats guat war fünf Wochen lang auf Platz 1 in den österreichischen Charts zu finden! Ab 4. November gibt es die Single nicht nur mit der Studio-Aufnahme, sondern auch mit einer bisher unveröffentlichten Live-Version zu kaufen. Das Album Entwederundoder stand drei Wochen lang auf Platz 2 und hat jetzt auch Platin bekommen! In Deutschland hat das Album mit Platz 13 die für HvG bis dato höchste Chartplatzierung in diesem Land erreicht. Am 13.
